It's a type of hat popular in the 18th century (Though the proper name would be a tricornered hat/tricorne a Three-cornered hat or a cocked hat, old ref is old and I hadn't bothered researched the proper term when I made it X3 /bricked) they usually look like this : http://www.williamsburgmarketplace......36_TR04_hs.jpg
Though sometime the hat would have have trim, or cockade attached, as on this hat:
