Unless I'm mistaken, this means that whole thing with the baxxid eventually betraying the humans was a falsehood, and that Kal wanting to tear the elders apart (and admittedly looking like quite a badass while doing so) instead of turning on humanity for even suggesting it was all part of his test...if that's so, it seems like he has indeed passed. Noble child indeed. <3
Exactly. The whole thing was a setup to see how he'd react to the Elders themselves offering to betray humanity. It was patently ridiculous on its face; if they were interested in betraying humanity He Who Knows What He Did would be in their ranks, not chained up in a cave. But Kalghur took them at face value and was ready to fight to the death to protect his human friends.
It tells them that yeah, he's a hot-blooded kid that has a lot yet to learn, but he's totally committed to the Baxxid vision. That was the Judgement - and he passed with flying headscarves.

Let's see... Appropriate music would be "Vs. Susie" from Deltarune: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mF8Y4FVptN0
No, for such terror as that you have to go big. You have to go /classical./

There is no honor in genocide. If the klingons wouldn't enslave yinglets then they might guide them to becoming better warriors. If the elders had a problem with Vizlet embracing human knowledge and culture, imagine the fit they would have becoming part of a warrior culture where females are on an equal footing with the males.
i'm more concerned that yinglets are simply too much to handle for klingons ... or the federation at large for that matter haha
once they spread by the ships vents... they're like tribbles. you never get rid of em.
and now... i'm imagining yinglets doing the aliens thing inside space ships or stations like DS9. crawling through the vents and tubes stealing everything not bolted down, scaring the crap out of unaware folks.
meanwhile living in the most weird and dangerous places inbetween decks like smart pests, that will figure out how hand held phasers and electricity work as well.

Imagine Chief O'Brien having to fix whatever they break or Odo trying to infiltrate the enclave in the ore processing area. However they become adept at evading the jem'hadar when the Dominion take the station. Where before they were unintentionally breaking things now they're intentionally sabotaging the station. Oh some of them will have gotten down to Bajor and several will have beamed themselves into space.
Oh for sure, they'll be a nuisance, but once established they'll equally protect and fight for the place tooth and nail all the same. long term residents likely love & hate them as well.
As for beamed into space... all over the place with and without "space suits" i imagine.
"There's Yinglets on the starboard bow, starboard bow, starboard bow;
There's Yinglets on the starboard bow, starboard bow, Jim!
Analysis, Mr. Spock:
It's life, Jim, but not as we know it, not as we know it, not as we know it;
It's life, Jim, but not as we know it, not as we know it, Captain"
Damnnit they got into the teleporters again didn't they...
:D

That's what I thought. The key wasn't that he was ready to kill the Elders. The key was that he would fight to the death for their vision of harmony with humanity. You couldn't get any stronger an indication than that that he wasn't interested in killing humans, and that the incident in the market was a blind accident. The kid's hot-blooded and needs a lot of seasoning, but he's on the side of the Baxxid version of the angels. So he's salvageable, and that was the whole point of the exercise.
And I have to say, the Baxxid have one hell of a Cooldown Hug.
And I have to say, the Baxxid have one hell of a Cooldown Hug.
There are hints that, some time long in the past, there was a far more technologically advanced civilisation. So some of their artefacts might be so inexplicable as to be regarded as magic, though really it is just technology of the 'sufficiently advanced' variety. Although it is hard to imagine what purpose was served in engineering That Thing... perhaps yingletification was not its original purpose.
I think it was a test to see if he was willing to commit violence against humans. Basically, if he was a Baxxid Supremacist or not. He's hot-blooded and that's an issue, but he's also a kid and they probably were expecting a lot of passion. But the passion was ALL on the side of his human friends, and he was willing to engage his own Elders in combat to defend them. That, I think, was the real test, and he passed. He needs a lot of seasoning, but he's firmly on their side, and that's what counts.
Yeah. The Baxxid might be able to forgive violence, I think, but NOT violence that threatens their relationship with humans. The last thing the Elders seem to want is another war. They want to exist as symbiotes and partners. And they got a helluva advocate in Kalghur for that. Firey passion can be very useful politically... if directed correctly.
Ahh yes makes sense! That’s why he-who-knows-what-he-did is locked up (thinking about it it wouldn’t make sense for them to do that if they agreed with him, other than to keep up with appearances).
Kalghur committed an act of violence among humans, but by accident and in defense of another, and here he just proved that if pushed to it he’s capable of going all out against even his elders in defense of humans, proving his true feelings towards humans.

Yep, and as I had mentioned elsewhere, this might actually improve the Baxxid relationship with humans - I'd wager that the merchants of the square want to throw Kalghur a parade for finally making to clear to the thieves there is a price to pay for open criming - without any more violence being necessary. That's probably gonna make a lot of the Powers That Be, including Trademaster Viracroix, happy. Less crime = more profit = more taxes.
Dang, and interesting. Yeah it's mentioned before that the mere presence of a Baxxid is enough to intimidate people into not causing trouble, but those who know how bashful and pacifistic they are probably won't be as scared of them. After that tho, it's clear they mean business! Though this does mean more people will be afraid of them, which is something they tried to avoid
I wonder if Klagkur is as confused as I am.
I am not sure if they're happy that Klagkur would "murder them like dogs" because it signifies that he'd be willing to kill to protect their way of life.
Or if it is because his willingness to kill proves their point regarding that violence is their purpose.
If only because... being willing to murder them like dogs kind of goes against the idea that they've moved on from being violent.
But the hug implies that it is likely the former.

it's all about /why/ he was so ready to kill them.
they gave him an easy option - pretend everything is fine but accept that baxxid and humans are fundamentally incompatible, and that some day the baxxid will murder all the humans. that a blood feud is righteous.
and he categorically rejected that option, and would rather /kill his own kind/ than allow them to betray the humans that way.
so... he passed the test. it's not that he has the capacity for violence, it's that he has firmly aligned it with a moral compass beyond their basic, instinctive roots. he values civilization and interspecies cooperation.
it's not like the baxxid have categorically sworn off violence - we saw the caravan guard who happily admits to enjoying getting to use violence in a sanctioned manner (with the caveat that everyone else should please treat him as a freak for that). it's that the baxxid are, quite genuinely, trying to escape their primitive roots and part of that is shackling their capacity for violence to a coherent system of morality compatible with human morality.

And besides that very good analysis, what Kalghur did is actually going to improve Baxxid relationships with humans. I guarantee that every merchant in that market is gonna want to throw him a parade. All the Baxxid have to do is post a guard or two in the market, and no sane thief is going to try that sort of brazen criming again - without any more violence being necessary. The merchants will WELCOME the Baxxid. That will make Trademaster Viracroix happy, and human-Baxxid relationships improve.
That depends how well the PR side is managed. It could be seen as "Baxxid brutally murders fleeing petty thief." We don't usually hail police as heroes when they shoot a shoplifter in the back. I expect that why this is going on, Viracroix is busy deploying his best spindoctors to spread the right rumors around.
If thievery was very rare, yeah, there probably would be a backlash that would have to be carefully managed. But IIRC it had become such a problem that it was threatening the viability of the entire market. I don't think the merchants are going to line up to defend yet another thief that ended up getting bisected by an overeager, rookie guard. Dude wasn't stealing bread.
And the other petty thieves are going to think twice before pulling that move in front of a Baxxid again.
And the other petty thieves are going to think twice before pulling that move in front of a Baxxid again.
To fight for a better way and die for it is better then to live a lie.
That seams to be what I'm getting here.
We met one that believe that they are weapons and killing is in their blood. I this what they are.
The elders push this belief now that it seen and is planted and now try and plant a seed of doubt. That they are just waiting to strike, pretending to be peaceful then see how he reacts. Does he believe this lie or does he fight against it?
Our boy explodes with anger for the notion, willing to kill the elders because of his belief that they should co-exist. Fully committed of the way of life he was taught even tho FULLY capable of being what that seed that was plated said. And if true, a 1v3 was a death sentence, let alone all the others in these halls that would never let him leave.
And so he passes, because the elders do believe in peace between species, or so we hope. Now the big question is what does our boy DO now that the veil has been pulled back and he's also seen his species true nature give him that anger.

whoa can they all do sonic blasts like that or that guy special? I guess if they used to be hunters that disabling frequency would be REALLY useful, in fact maybe they should have taught him to use that on the thief instead of "just lightly tap them with your claw it'll be fine"
I suspect that's a capability they all have. The baxxids seem to communicate at least partially infrasonically, and to be able to project at very loud volumes. I suspect that their vision is within a much wider range of wavelengths than ours is as well, hence the multiple sets of eyes.
With the different sizes and their underground adaptations, I think they might be for different light levels. The front eyes are too tiny and insensitive to be any good in dim light, but provide the highest visual acuity in daylight. The rear ones are swamped with light in daylight, but sensitive enough to see - not well, but enough - even in very dim caves. Between the three sets they will be able to see potentially better than humans in daylight, and have enough sensitivity to see in the deepest cavern by the faintest of bioluminescent light sources.
Yeah.
Yeah, okay, they were ready for this. They were ready to knock him out once he started going Super Saiyan, get him calmed down, tell him he passed the test.
But man...
Kalgur was locked, cocked and ready to rock with a full load of FIND OUT.
And that green one has got a wet stain under their tail.

Hmm... on one hand, it's a good sign for his devotion to peace that he would so fervently fight those who would plot such a slaughter.
On the other hand, it's a good sign for a plotted slaughter that he would so quickly fall to a murderous rage.
A pair of signs, pointing opposite directions.

Yo, OOPsers! I'm here to remind you once again that there's a place called "Top Web Comics" https://www.topwebcomics.com/?home=3 that compiles comics from various places. There's a bunch of cool stuff there. They have monthly votes, so you can support OOPs there. You can vote once a day per device, so your PC, laptop, tablet, phone, etc.
I've noticed that you can sometimes even get in extra votes from different IP addresses, or if you're disconnected from your IP and open up again later.
It closed out last month at 1170 votes and 45th place. It's currently at 411 votes and 47th place. The highest it's reached is 36th place, and the top vote getters seem to end up with something close to 20,000 votes.
Vote early, vote often! Help OOPs get noticed!

Since we're reminding people of things I am also here to remind everyone of the time sikfock666 cyber bullied someone on the internet for no reason other than they just happened to have a different opinion. See the following screen capture and scroll down to read what they did to Flinters. https://web.archive.org/web/2024060.....#cid:179672288
Hey AV. How ya doin' there?
It's a lot easier and more honest to just link to the comment chain so that the whole discussion is included: https://www.furaffinity.net/view/56.....#cid:179672288
I'd be surprised if anyone but you or Flinters cares about this or agrees with you, but I'd be curious to hear.

I see you have already chosen to delete one of your comments. This is why we use screen captures so you can't do that. At the moment I've only decided to point people to this when you write this reminder comment. However I am seriously considering "stepping it up" and writing this comment in response to every single comment you write. I'm not sure if I want to do that yet but I might soon. I feel it is very important that people know what you did to others in the past and your chosen behavior online.
Pfft.
The only reason I deleted that comment was because I wanted to correct a small error in it beyond the five minute comment correction window. That was a long comment. It happens. It was also outside of your screencap, which didn't show the whole thread.
I'm scrupulously honest with this sort of thing. I don't ever block anyone or delete their or my comments to hide anything, If you've got information to disprove that, I welcome it. -Oh wait, you don't, because it doesn't exist and never did.
Good try, though.
Once again, you're welcome to write whatever you want. I don't care, as long as you don't straight-up harass me, in which case I'll turn it over to the admins.
And the total on that poll is now 468 votes and 45th place. In a little less than an hour the clock turns over and people will be able to make another vote.

I've had it happen personally. I don't really recommend or condone it, but at the same time, when faced with plain wrongdoing... Sometimes, you know? It's important to know the time. Poor Kalgkur lacks the experience to understand subtle deceit, but his, er... circulatory organ is in the right place.
Well, the local merchants at least will probably see him as the reason why theft is about to be noticeably reduced in the area.
Sure, it was an accident, but all the local thieves are gonna remember is that, last time someone tried to steal something near a Baxxid guard, the guy got extinguished all over the place.

There's new ones every day! : D
I totally understand why though, the species name and their own names are comprised of some pretty odd/rare syllables in English, and our brains tend to "correct" things like that when we're not making a specific effort to parse and break down a word.

Since nobody else has pointed it out, that I've seen at least, I love the 'Read too fast and you miss it' detail that it's Nell's safety that is ultimately what made him go postal, and Nell specifically. The other humans being hurt is wrong, but Nell? Threatening her is anathematic.
I see you hanging that gun, Valsalia. I see you. Bravo.
I see you hanging that gun, Valsalia. I see you. Bravo.
Interesting. The question is, what side 'won' ? The 'feral' side, or the 'civilized' side? On one hand, or claw, blade-hand, whatever, Kalgkur's loss of control would seem to verify the viewpoint that the veneer of civilization is only a mere shallow fabrication, a very thin surfaced one, and the loss of control signifying that their more primal base instinct driven nature is just under the surface, which cannot be denied and is easily drawn out with the proper goading. Yet on the other more 'Civilized' side, it would show the higher brained concept that he would be willing to let that feral side out and kill to protect his beliefs and way of life that he believed wholeheartedly in with every fiber of his being. To kill because it was primal instinct urging one to do it, or on the flip side of the coin to slay the wicked heretic because you believe that they are evil and go against everything one holds dear.
And more importantly, which 'Side' these elders are on, to where do they owe their allegiances? Do they truly represent the higher ups of Baxxid authority, or are they a part of some secretive cabal, eager to use Kalgkur for their own mysterious and possibly nefarious ends?
I guess we shall see as the intrigue of the story continues to unfold in the future.

Oh my
I just collapsed on my desk from crying so suddenly
This really just spoke to a very exhausting fear of mine
especially in this day and age
"The world actually desires peace. The ones in charge are striving for peace and coexistence.
Yes, really."
My heart. My heart overflows with relief. With gratitude. With the exhale of a breath that I've been holding for the longest time.
If only. If only. If only this translated to the real world. One step above. If I could feel so powerfully relieved-- about my current situation. If only.
However, I still feel powerfully relieved. My heart feels hopeful. I want to believe.
