A dull roar as torrents of water spill over the cliffs fills the air, drowning out the other sounds of the forest as crashing water throws up a veil of mist, blotting out much of what little sunlight managed to penetrate the old growth to reach the valley floor. Weather worn stone juts from the earth, carved smooth and erected ages ago by unknown craftsman, battered by the inexorable force of untold years, partially buried in the mud and dirt as it is reclaimed by the ground from whence it once came. What remains resolute against the force of nature bares the scars of countless, unkind years. Moss and ivy clings to every crack and crevice, slowly tearing apart the once immaculate stonework; eventually even what little still stands will falter and crumble, lost to time.
She had not meant to come here. It was as though she was borne here by some unknown instinct, carried by some force beyond her control, as though she was walking into a dream. The stars in her coat shimmered faintly in the indirect sunlight, refracted by the sheet of mist that clung to the air. She stood before the archway to nowhere, standing like some portal to another world. She took a few timid steps towards the portal, a sense of reverence overcoming her that defied any explanation; passing under the archway she found she remained in her own world.
In the blink of an eye, suddenly the world began to shift, and she found herself surrounded by the pale specters of the past; beings walking on two legs, blissfully unaware of the doom that will befall them; the doom that did befall them. They stride about as though the world never ended, as though their cities were never swept beneath a wave of ash, as though their lives had never been stolen. There is no malevolence in their movements, and yet terror grips her, as though trapped in a nightmare; a waking nightmare of her own making. But the vision that plagues her is no nightmare.
Her eyes squeeze shut and a shiver runs down her spine as she wills the shades away. When her eyes open, she finds herself once more back in her own world, the specters banished to the past; back to the dark recesses of her mind from whence they came. Their absence does not bring her peace; it means the world is still doomed… it means she is still alone. Her memory of the phantoms begins to fade in an instant, slipping away like water through a sieve, as though a dream from a lifetime ago.
She gazes up at the ruins before her with a sense of reverence that is beyond her explanation. She had not meant to come here; it was as if she had walked into a dream. Moss and lichen threatened to tear what remained of the stone apart, to slowly turn the ruin into rubble. A powerful melancholy fell over her, a sudden weight within her heart. This place was a relic, a remnant of an age that had long since passed, the last vestige of another world; a world that now existed only as a memory; a memory that would one day be swept beneath the earth. And in that moment she knew the truth; that she too was a relic, a specter roaming a world that was no longer hers.

It’s a very wonderfully painted scene by Noxeri with an amazing level of detail. The illustration itself is like stepping into a dream.
The story is so well-done too, and the whole theme behind the story is very moving and powerful. As always, your wonderful sense of storytelling and eloquent use of language transports us to another world, even if just for a moment. :)

It's time once again to step through the portal and follow this beautiful yote in a wonderful dreamworld. Peace and gorgeousness everywhere, but at the same time a sense of heaviness like when we have those bad nightmares. Absolutely beautiful environment design and atmosphere with a perfect mix of mystery gradually revealed. I crazily love how the palette goes with Fiadh too. Noxeri Sensei did again great justice to your fairy girl, this painted scenario instantly earns my eternal praise. 😄💖 One last thing, as dear Hamster said above, your wonderful sense of storytelling and super eloquent use of language transports every reader to another world, and you know the worlds visited from dear Fiadh are forever my favorites. 🥰✨🧡
