Gerand is a dwarf. In his culture, which is one of many in the broader dwarf world, homosexuality is both taboo and tacitly acknowledged.
In the sense that nobody ever condemns it but nobody ever talks about it, either. In order to avoid complication, gay male dwarves are clean-shaven (wearing a beard being a Mandalorian-level thing among male dwarves) and this is taken as read. (Lesbian dwarves make their own arrangements, but I don't know what those are. ) Even the 'shaving so as to idenfity myself to the rest of the world' thing developed as a meme without anyone ever saying it out loud.
I must assume this could lead to hilarity - as it were - if dwarves from cultures with different standards encounter the phenomenon, but I would have to say they are probablly identifiable by their differing manner of dress and language.
I originally created Gerand as the love interest of Seth, my gaysona. He's a halfling. All of his original art was lost in a one of those amusing incidents where a fairly expensive, not-very-old, well-treated external hard drive suddenly starts making those funny little ticking noises. That was decades ago and I am still salty about it.
There will be some art of those two I should think.
