The Crown of the Northern Abyss
I usually don't draw stuff related to the geography of my world… but this specific location is odd enough to warrant a separate entry.
This is the Crown of the Northern Abyss: one of two gargantuan blue holes located on the opposite hemispheres of the planet. Both blue holes are several thousand miles in diameter, and both came into existence because of a massive battle between the Creator Deities of the world and a gigantic, hostile force from a different universe. The battle itself took place over 25 million years in the past. The two blue holes are the only visible remnant of said battle and indicate how devastating that conflict was.
The Crown of the Northern Abyss is located off the eastern coast of Elysium and is connected with it through a massive mountain range. This mountain range is hard to traverse but not impossible to beat. The fauna of the Crown consists of animals that were either capable of traveling underground or those that were able to traverse the treacherous mountain range.
The name of this area comes from the rocky rim surrounding the abyss, created by a huge explosion of arcane energy. This rim consists of tall rocky mountains, with only the sparsest vegetation. Shrubs, cacti, succulents, and other drought-resistant plants grow sporadically from the stone surface. The outer part of the rim also sports wide sandy beaches along with some grasses; the soil is too poor and dry to support trees and other larger plants. Meanwhile, the inner part of the Crown's rim is a sheer cliff face that supports little to no life, aside from sea birds and sea wyverns that make their colonies there.
The rim also sports several breaks, rifts, and underwater passages that connect the blue hole itself with the open ocean. Currently, the fauna in there is poorly understood, but based on the few testimonies made by sailors who were either brave enough or foolish enough to venture into these waters: "The hole is home to horrors beyond human understanding".
No creature art today, but you can expect some abyssal creatures in the future. For now stare into the abyss and pray that it doesn't stare back at you.
