Motes Played is an upcoming novella written by myself and my partner, samsterious . Set in the Post-Self setting where one can create copies of oneself to either accomplish a task and merge back down, providing you with all of their memories or to go live their own lives, individuating over time, the story follows Motes, a long (long) lived fork from Michelle Hadje. Given the size of her clade, numbering well into the hundreds by now, 237 years after they were first forked, everyone has become quite different, with some remaining skunks, some being human, some leaning into theatre, some leaning into politics, and so on. Motes, in particular, has leaned hard into a reclaimed childhood, which does not sit particularly well with some of the others in her clade.
