Haiii!
Been a long while since I last uploaded anything here, and there's a good reason for that. Things haven't been going well on my end and I hadn't the energy to upload much on my socials. Hopefully I can upload more often, as I have a bunch ofmoods new characters to indulge in.
Recently I've been rereading the Conan the Cimmerian stories by Robert E. Howard, and I forgot how much I love the Hyborian Age as a setting. It's a bronze/iron-age fantasy and you don't see many of them these days, my dad grew up with it in his early days (in fact it was because of him I started reading the stories) and I've started bonding with him during some very dark days for us both, and for the most part, I love Funcom's artistic direction with the setting in their video game titles, so naturally I've been playing some Conan: Exiles. Which naturally brings us to the lady you see here.
This is Wadjet, a serpent-man and my character in Conan: Exiles. I grew attatched enough with her adventures in the Exiled Lands that I just had to do more with her. In R.E. Howard's writing, the serpent-men were an ancient species of bipedal snakes who were once the dominant life form on Earth, before they were eventually supplanted by humanity. Thier first appearence is in the King Kull story, The Shadow Kingdom, where they tried to replace the king in a coup. And since then, they've reappeared in several adaptations and pastiches within the setting. They still live in isolated pockets by Conan's time, but are well past their prime, and are a people heading closer and closer to extinction.
My lore for Wadjet is that her enclave lives within the country of Stygia. In the Hyborian Age, Stygia is basically Ancient Egypt if they worshipped the evil demon-god Apep, only he's called "Set" in the stories. I figured that since Set was an ancient serpent-men god, whom the Stygians worship, then they of all humans would be more willing than most to live amongst them in the open. Wadjet comes from one such enclave around a Stygian town or village. She was born with a strange colouration and patterns for her kind, which was taken as a blessing amongst their god. As such, she was given an education in sorcery, and became the "god's wife" (high priestess) at her local temple, which was her home for many years.
However, Stygia is a battleground for power hungry kings, cults, and cabals, and I figured that despite being Set worshippers themselves, even the likes of say Thoth-Amon (a recurring villain in Conan pastiches) and the Black Ring wouldn't hesitate to screw over their god's chosen people for the chance of power. So Wadjet in one way or another, finds herself cast out, exiled, for her position. And after that? Well we'll have to see, won't we? But in the meantime, she has the cunning and means to survive. She can disguise herself as a human, and even knows how to cast illusions make her form seem more appealing to humans.
Those breasts? Yeah they're fake. Helps give off those "feminine vibes" human males are so attracted to. She also has a selection of wigs for much the same purpose. But do not let her circumstances or her form fool you; she's ruthless, a gifted sorcerer, and a priestess to a god who's more than ok with human sacrifice. She despises humans, but then I would too if they're were trying to genocide my people.
Deffo going to be doing more with her in the future, and I want to thank
for coming up with the first concept for her (which I shall share here soon) and
for drawing me an outlined base for me to figure out colours and patterns. Couldn't have done it without your help. Love you lots! <333
