Beep. A phone announced that it was running video recording and Max knew it was his cue to act. He'd been standing side on, hand on a hip as he hunched over slightly, hanging his head and holding one finger up to the bridge of the glasses on his nose. He pushed, slowly sliding them up to sit properly and then he rose up as the serious look on his face turned into a bit of a smirk on the side. Beep. The phone stopped recording.
"Haha, nice!" Max didn't have any idea who this guy was, he was just some other convention-goer, but he could never say no to taking pictures with people and sharing a good moment. "If you didn't have such a friendly face then I could totally peg you for some villain scientist playing the role of final boss fight in some JRPG! It's a shame you didn't come in a full-on costume, dude!"
"Thanks!" Max grinned. There was a reason he didn't come in a costume... or rather he was in his costume already, just nobody could tell. "Might find a moment to change later on. I hope we'll see each other again!" He waved goodbye and glanced at the band wrapped around his forearm; more of a bracer really.
The Full Dive Cosplay Band. It was a handy device he'd used for past conventions. All he had to do was slip a specially developed card into the panel there and he'd gradually transform into the character shown in the image. It even worked to change his outfit so that was an extra plus considering that he was just in a casual green t-shirt with jeans right at the moment; hardly the stuff that cosplay was made of unless you were cosplaying... well, some modern guy. This time he'd selected a magical girl named Cure Whip and he reckoned it was just about time to get the fun started! So he pulled out the card and slipped it into the panel on the band, displaying the picture there on his forearm, and promptly forgot about it. It'd do the job all by itself now.
Bigcon. It was the biggest convention in the world, bringing all sorts of fandoms together in celebration of their interests. Max looked around with a grin on his face. Over there you had the old timey-wimey steampunks standing around with their fancy gadgets and Victorian-style outfits with tools and gears tacked on. And right next to that you had the cyberpunks; a wild contrast if Max ever saw one. They had some techno music playing and had a real atmosphere going on with a whole bar set up. The people he could see sitting around in there had some serious costumes and the modifications might have looked just a little bit too real. They were either amazing artists or completely dedicated fans.
Max set off with a spring in his step, aiming to be in a more anime-centric locale once the changes started kicking in. He really couldn't wait to see how it turned out and get some pictures! But there was still so much for him to see as he walked. People came as their favourite video game characters like- Damn! Was that a full group of the origin characters from Baldur's Gate 3? Karlach burning hot in the flesh, Astarion all pale and laughing at someone quite sarcastically. Lae'zel looked a bit too scary to approach for pictures, especially while having an argument with Shadowheart; even if it was just to put on a show. Gale was pulling some magic tricks with cards, quite amusingly, and Wyll was showing off some fencing manoeuvres. Max made a mental note to track them down later along with some TV characters like Rick from the Walking Dead and Homelander from The Boys. They all put 200% into their costumes.
But this was more his speed now, coming into the anime-dominated areas of Bigcon. And it was just in time as Max could feel a familiar sensation building along his spine, starting from the back of his neck. It was a mild tingling sensation that grew and grew, focused in a line down his back but spreading over his head with such completeness like having it submerged in warm water. His face was spared the tingling for now but everywhere that he had hair was firing off signals to his brain. Max smirked to himself, feeling like he'd just won a bet; after all, he'd guessed that his hair would be the first thing to change this time around.
Further into the con, moving nonchalantly through the crowds. Some people looked his way, noticing that something wasn't quite static with this guy. It was fun to catch the attention and slowly have people around begin to realise what they were looking at, what they were watching develop. He had an FDCB and now there was a fun game to be played, trying to guess what character he was going to be cosplaying as he changed over the next while.
Weight. Max could feel his hair growing in length, getting thicker with every moment. It was slight and slow but completely unmistakeable... and yet he couldn't resist checking it out from himself as all the hair was out of his vision. He raised a hand up to the side of his head, softly patting around to discover the perfectly styled hair that had taken residence on his head. Using his hand like a chair for the voluminous locks, he turned his head and glanced at one of the pretty pigtails part way through its transformation. It was something of a salmon colour, turning to a pink from his normally orange-hued hair, and it was certainly only halfway through the growth, only really reaching down to his shoulder.
The FDCB was going to cause some mental changes but Max could tell in this moment that the cheery grin he was beaming on his face was all his own. There was something contagious about having such a sweet, adorable head of hair to spread merriment at the con with! Pink was beginning to dominate the colour of his hair now, a perfect copy to the card he'd placed into the wristband, and the volume was truly becoming noticeable as people made sure to give him enough room to continue his advance, his hair taking up a good amount of space on either side of him between the two cute pigtails.
He was in the thick of the anime showcases now and feeling right at home. Big names were all around, like Naruto and One Piece, right down to smaller known shows like Boogiepop Phantom. Max had quite an outrageous and unique hairstyle going but then most of the people here did too so it wasn't at all out of the ordinary. And perhaps that was why he seemed to catch less attention than he was getting moments ago where there was more overlap in categories for the con-goers. Especially now he was nearing where all the magical girls fans were hanging out. Oh! But there were more changes to come and Max was sure he'd catch plenty more attention over it. The tingling sensation came back, now affecting all over his skin...
Max had anticipated this but he could never truly prepare himself for the feeling. As a physical experience it was equivalent to the sudden touch of tang on the tongue, an incredibly powerful sour treat that made the face twist or, in the case of the transformation, made the entire body quiver. Muscles went weak, trying and failing to respond to a full upheaval in natural feeling, knees nearly buckled, eyes squinted as he cringed, blocking out most of his sight temporarily as he tried to soldier through it. He had to stop walking, all but paralysed here in the middle of the crowd as he shuddered in the seemingly endless moment testing his endurance. But it would all be worth it for the full results of using the FDCB. One couldn't get their hands on a more authentic look if they tried! And the feeling did eventually pass in some capacity, even as the transformation continued on. The intense sensation weakened to a mild level and Max was able to take in all that he was too overwhelmed to notice before.
First of all, he was hardly 'he' anymore. Perhaps she was not entirely done with the gender transformation just yet but everything about her had become noticeably feminine. Her skin was softer and, right at this moment, her body hair finished receding to give a pleasant smooth feeling all across her flesh; her green t-shirt feeling somehow less rough at every point of contact. She touched a finger to her cheek, feeling that her face had rounded as she made an examination and finding that her jaw was not so pronounced. It was so pleasant to the touch, made so by the softness of youth which she owed to the transformation dropping a few years off her physical age. And these people around her... She was certain that none of them were quite so tall before. But this was only because of the height she'd lost.
Hair and form were most likely perfect by now but the freshly transformed Cure Whip would need a mirror to check over the more minor details. Fortunately there were plenty of places with mirrors to gaze into. Most of the sections had one or two for the attendees to touch up on their outfits or make-up throughout the day. So she finally came to where most of the magical girls fans were and found a spot to check herself out. Surrounded by all the other cosplayers here, she fit to a t! Well, that was an ironically false statement considering that her current clothing did nothing to blend in with the other magical girls. She was still dressed like some guy who'd come over from his living room. Which she was. But the outfit would take care of itself in due time... not much longer, she hoped. In the meantime, she checked herself out, a cheery grin beaming back at her from the person in the mirror. She was totally adorable between her dainty form and sweet face, and she was certain now that all the changes to her body were complete. Even her eyes had taken on the cute pink hue of her hair!
As luck would have it, the FDCB chose now of all moments to start working on her clothes. She had a perfect view being in front of a mirror and she watched in awe as they changed right before her eyes, almost as if they'd been struck by dust from a shooting star. The ordinary green t-shirt that occupied her upper body, which had become quite baggy on her smaller frame, shimmered like an oasis in a desert, shedding its colour in favour of white and pink that fit far more to the form-complimenting pretty dress it was becoming. Puffy shoulder sleeves took their place as the lovely pink bow centred with a strawberry badge formed upon her chest. And the skirt opened out like an umbrella or... perhaps it could better be compared to the icing on a sweet cupcake. Yes! The dress almost looked like it could fit into a nice little bakery window.
Cure Whip waved her arms, almost falling on her face as her balance suddenly shifted. A reflexive look down confirmed her suspicion as she saw the heeled boots with bunny themed toes and pompoms on the sides. She'd been taken by surprise but now it was easy to stand in them, to walk in them, as if she'd had years of practice. She placed a hand on her hip and giggled with joy. What a truly marvellous piece of technology she'd gotten her hands on! White gloves wrapped around her wrists and fingers, accentuating their delicateness and adorned themselves with the same pompoms her shoes did. A decorative sweet hat came to sit upon her head but, more importantly, this drew attention to the great big rabbit ears that extended above her. She knew to expect it but the sight still put a look of surprise on her face. Oh! That was right! She turned slightly to get a look at her back in the mirror and... Yes! The cute bunny tail was there! Another giggle. Now she had the perfect magical girl look, one for one with Cure Whip herself. And a cursory glance of the card in the armband confirmed it.
But the armband was almost immediately forgotten as the magical girl realised that she hadn't eaten anything today. She was in such a rush to get to the con that she skipped breakfast and it was nearing lunch time. Her stomach rumbled, making her whimper slightly, and that settled her next objective; to the food court. Back from the anime portion of the con, back through crowds of people. Considering she'd spent all her time getting to this point, it was a bit of shame but she didn't let it get her down, taking an optimistic point of view that there was plenty of time left in the day to come back and associate with other magical girls. Besides, she had a growing craving beyond just hunger that she was looking forward to satisfying. It felt like a wave of drowsiness was washing over her as she walked, brought upon by all the excitement of her transformation... and yet, this excitement was not the cause! More and more she felt that she needed something sweet to pick up her sugar levels and inspire more energy for enjoying the day. What kind of mouthwatering treats were they selling at the food court? What kinds of candies? Her mind was adrift with the possibilities, so focused on potential that she didn't realise that she'd arrived until she was deep into the scents of deliciousness all around.
Cure Whip stopped in her tracks, a surprised look coming over her face as she took in where she'd ended up. And then a grin, a jump for joy. Excellent! She was only moments away from something nice and sweet. She jogged, almost ran, over to the donut place with lots of delightful looking treats on display. There were chocolate eclairs split with cream, warm sugar cinnamon circles and others that were iced. The balls jam packed with... well, jam, looked ever so appetising as well. The girl's mouth watered as she browsed, waiting for her turn to be served and, when it was finally time, she was totally ready for it. "A large strawberry milkshake and caramel iced donut, please!" A short wait for the milkshake later and she was carrying it away with the donut in a paper bag, sipping on a straw as sugar stimulated her tastebuds to the point of giggling. Oh, but she couldn't go eating the donut yet. That would be skipping meals, so she spied out a place serving pie and got a nice apple slice. It was sweet but at least something more nutritious!
Finding a place to sit down and dig into lunch, Cure Whip spied something or, rather, someone. They were clearly cosplaying as a magical girl with all that clothing. The cute blue outfit with the lion's tail was a dead giveaway and Cure Whip had good bets on the character. The person really fit the costume too with that dainty frame but what really caught her eye was the FDCB they were wearing along with the short plain brown hair. It was none other than her girlfriend and she never would have realised it if not for catching her mid-transformation before her face and hair could change appearance. "Jessica!" Cure Whip called her over.
"Max?" Jessica approached and gave a grin. "I was wondering if I'd catch you around the convention. Looks like you got into things nice and early!"
A sweet giggle as Cure Whip made space beside her at the table. "You aren't far behind me. Want some pie?"
"Oh, I don't mind if I do!" Jessica took a seat and broke off a piece with the fork, making a wide smile and satisfied hum as she ate it up. And all the while she did, the pink girl was treated to the final touches to her transformation, watching as brown hair began to appear almost purple, lengthening and spreading out behind Jessica's head until it looked like a lion's mane. More and more growth, ever changing until... the colour settled on blue. Her eyes took on the same beautiful blue as well and, with that, all the changes were done. They looked like two peas in a pod now! What perfect luck it was to run into each other like this; a duo made for way better pictures, after all.
They talked and laughed as they shared a bit of lunch and the delicious snack Cure Whip found for herself and then it was back to the con. Their final destination was the anime section but the journey was where the real fun was, stopping with people from all sorts of different fandoms along the way to chat and compliment costumes. And there were plenty of people looking to take pictures, a perfect way to make memories. That was how the two magical girls ended up in a group photo with a few people cosplaying as Teen Titans characters alongside Han Solo and Chewie. And with such perfected outfits, it was a cinch to get merchandise signed! Cure Whip got the impression that the people she was a fan of were more eager to see her than she was to see them! But that was what she really loved about giving this level of an authentic experience, being able to spread that kind of joy and merriment wherever she went. And there was so much more of the day left to do it with.
