Osprey Hawk hired me to draw a series depicting various cartoon girls as harem dancers. My own desire for internal logic has the story behind the series that numerous cartoon starlets are on their way to a costume ball. So the bulk of this series for me is either the girls looking at their costumes in the mirror or, like Peg here, showing off for their husbands. Them all showing up to the party in similar costume, unaware of each others' plans, certainly paints an amusing picture!

Slave girls wore whatever their masters chose to give them.
Harem girls IRL usually dressed very modestly outside of the harem, as they were either the wives or the concubines of powerful men. Inside it depended on what their husband/owner wanted them to wear. Though even then they'd probably avoid a bedlah as (a) it didn't exist in the 'glory days' of Islam and (b) it was entirely too revealing.
Belly Dancers from Egypt wore a bedlah, and sometimes still do, because it brings in the tourist customers. And locals too, to be sure. That said they're performing clothes and not normal day to day wear.
