well this is the newest revision of the trusty and now hard to get (thanks a HEAP BATFE...) saiga 12 combat shotgun.
The additions are a new gas puck the Titan rail system and H&K style sights from Chaos U.S.A. and even more MAGPUL "ladder" style rail covers .
The sights are zeroed in and far better than the "pistol style " sights you are given from factory , the red dot is a simple Primary Arms Mk 3 red dot she holds up well and will do until I can free up another Aimpont M68 C.C.O. as well as an A.R.M.S. low rise mount.
The battery life is no Aimpont (But expecting a 5 year battery life on a cheaper red dot is crazy...) it holds up nicely stays zeroed and is VERY rough , if not for a "mere" 250 hour battery life the Swiss Co. would DEFINITELY have some STIFF competition.
The iron sights and rail combination works AWESOME though the modification process is a rough one, if you haven't worked on a gun before this is NOT the place to start as with all Kalashnikov patterned firearms they require absurd amounts of work to get them to all fall under a pattern ( the price you pay for sheer durability.)
T.L.D.R. : hope ya brought a grinder a file , and you aren't afraid of blood sweat tears , dirt , and metal shavings..as well as the obligatory obscenities that will arise.
The sights are zeroed to 100 yards with 12 gauge slugs , and the Red-dot is co-witnessed .
Chris Hadley of Chaos U.S.A. designed the rail to retain and return to zero every time so you don't have to futz with Russian side mounts , or worry about losing you zero after cleaning or maintaining this firearm.
Other than that I had taken the liberty of coating the charging handle in "Plasti-dip" to reduce chances of snagging on gear and to increase grip in wet environments. It's been holding up FAR better than expected.
The only thing left to do is decide on a good firearms light , add the self adjusting auto-pug and perhaps a re-finish on the coating
So yeah about 98% done way under-budget civilian attainable and beats the ever lovin' crap out out of the absurdly heavier and non-flexible , non-modular the AA-12 shotgun ...

Right now it's running a MD arms /gunfixer industries multi position gas plug I will be switching to Tac-47's "auto-plug" soon , the gunfixer plug runs great but the real key to making these reliable with low brass is to check before you buy.
You have to unscrew the gas plug and remove the piston , the port holes off of the barrel should be even clean and neat 3 holes is the recommended though some earlier models have had 2 ( this NEEDS fixing!)
Fixing a 2 hole gun problem requires removal of the factory front sight and a drill bit ( cobalt or stronger!, this is TOUGH Russian steel! )
I recommend MD arm's booster puck as well if your Saiga is under-gassed but still is a 3 hole port
After that any good after-market plug will make it even more reliable my comb of 3port, new puck, and gunfixer's plug will run almost ANY 12 gauge ammo.
the Auto-plug will be added for the sheer fact I'm a little lazy...lol

mhmm, there's very minor differences in the designs, in fact 'Saiga' doesn't just ref to the shotgun you see here and it's variants (there are .410, 20ga and 12ga variants if I remember right) but Saiga is the general name used for a new production of sporting purpose Kalashnikov rifles, available in .223/5.56, 5.45x39, 7.62x39, .308/7.62x51NATO and .30/'06
Hey the 590 is still an AWESOME system , it's still one of my "go-to" choices when it comes to pump guns , and the reason for a pump shotgun is far less specialized than this , you can load ANY 12 gauge round mine well it's less of a shotgun more of a squad fore multiplier .
if I could have only one shotgun it would probably be a Mossberg 590 if I can have multiple then by gods I want more, but if ya got to make me choose...

Perfectly valid and I should have been more clear the diopter sight on this can quickly be changed to multiple zeroes, it has 4 setting on the rear sight "drum" that can be changed just as quick as flicking a switch
As for a non-quick adjust sight yeah 50 yards is more practical in an urban environment as shots to 100 yards is really the domain of a proper rifle anyway.

Hunting with this ?, not that it's incapable but if I had my way I would just use a good Mossberg Remington , Benelli or for slug hunting just go to a savage bolt action 12 gauge if I have to walk my regular distance to the deer stand I want as light as I can get nevermind the recoil. lol
I'm not even going to try to fool myself or pretend this is something it's not , this gun is kinda pigeon holed into being a squad support force multiplier
Might work for other people fine enough , but for me to use it an any other role than that is a lot like using a sledgehammer when a scalpel is called for.

lol yeah the whole rails on rails thing is out of control but this was the best alternative available without me spending thousands to have a single piece cut strictly for the use of a longer and more adjustable co-wittinessable sight radius , thankfully it really hasn't added too much to the weight of this shotgun.
