My Dearest Daughter
I have only just realized it has been so long since last we spoke. I can’t help but wonder how my little one is faring. Last I heard, you were announcing your pregnancy! Already giving me grandchildren, you make me so proud!
If you ever wish to visit, I have remained in the house I raised you in. It’s still a haunted little place full of an ever growing cadre of your half-siblings. I tell them stories about you all the time; sometimes I even get to show them videos of your dances. If I do that, then I will be up late into the night telling stories of your first graceful steps and all the practice you did in our yard, til little holes formed in the grass. I would wake up tired and grouchy the next morning from lack of sleep, but you always knew how to cheer me after rough nights.
Do you still remember when you were such a tiny little thing, your head set against my pregnant tummy with wonder and curiosity? I treasure every one of the memories that you gifted to me, Jenny. When I first laid eyes on you, just barely born and whimpering for a mother to warm you, my heart melted. I couldn’t imagine leaving you to anyone else. Now you have a wonderful husband, and if my old magic isn’t entirely dull, I can sense something huge for your coming child. Congratulations! I hope to meet them one day, and I will spoil them as much as I spoiled you!
Make sure to get plenty of rest, my little shining star. I’m sure your pregnancy is hard! But I know that any daughter I raised can do it with style. I bet you won’t stop dancing until the moment your water breaks. Don’t let your husband see how amazing you look, or he’ll demand more children for sure!
Your adoring Mama
The letter was written with haste, but a little less than the others. It was embraced and kissed before it was sent on its way, and for a moment the ethereal witch stared after it dreamily. That particular child was one of her favourites, and she could barely hide it. Of all the little ones she'd had running through her rickety old haunted house, how couldn't she love her little idol like so many others did? Her shining star and a mother herself.
Satisfied at a baby well raised, she would go back to responding to and writing letters to all her others.
It was always an all day affair...
