Going through recovery of pneumonia, trying to get artistically creative and motivated. And Crayola, my cinnamon green cheek conure , is out of the cage and wanting attention.
Since I acquired Crayola in early April after the tragic passing of Peepers unexpectedly, I've been slowly working with the chick. We're now chirping happily when I get up in the morning and pull aside the curtain plus when I get home from work. And starting the past week starting to say "Daddies Home" though not as clear as Peepers did. But theres room to improve. Though he's now copied my cough from the past couple weeks.
Plus , unlike Peepers, Crayola LOVES to take a shower when I do. I place the bird on a window crank and will lean into the spray off my shoulder and if REALLY wanting a good bath, will flap his wings to gain more of the splash. And when I use my my hair dryer, Crayola will sit on an affixed perch attached to the mirror and at low speed, allow me to partly blow dry the feathers. Peepers would flee the bathroom when I turned on the dryer.
Crayola is also experimenting with trying new foods and especially loves noodle dishes, and the spaghetti sauce covered noodles, noshing on parts of any sandwich, and like Peepers, Fried chicken is a must, though still trying the meat itself where Peepers went full blown cannibal on the chicken. Blueberries are now a new favorite treat too.
Crayola's flight feathers are about in (The seller clipped the wing feathers at the show) and we're doing short hop flights , always an excellent sign, plus will fully preen his feathers while sitting perched on my hand or will spend a large amounts of time, allowing me to scritch about the head and neck feathers, puffing up happily.
Oddly, unlike every other bird I've ever owned (exception being Lockheed the Crow) millet sprig is largely ignored by Crayola. Which is a bit annoying since I bought a huge bag at the bird show at the same time. Plus doesn't know how to unshell a peanut, even if I partly crack it open. Peepers LOVED to play with empty toilet paper tubes, eventually chewing them to pieces, Crayola ignores them. And so far ignores meal worms when offered whereas Peepers would nip off the meal worms head and squeeze out the guts like a tub of toothpaste and suck down the innards.
But Crayola is still young, learning, developing a personality, and yet to discover that Lego Mini figures are fun to throw off the DVD shelves or torment the bearded dragons (Hopefully NEVER) that Peepers excelled at doing. Plus has gained weight, from 54 grams when I got him to 64 grams currently (68-72 grams being considered a healthy normal).
But my little feathered buddy is doing great.
