its a emoticon which is eyes closed smile it originated from japan i believe which before originated from anime i use this ^^ as a foreshorting of this ^o^ ^_^ ^u^ ^w^ (happy face) ^_^; (embarresed face) ^_^ * (pissed off but still smiling) i hope that explains it
