Followup to that new timeline : https://www.furaffinity.net/view/56357030/ it's shaping up as a potential series. There's a sort of announcement after the text, check it out
Officer Mackey wasn't exactly having a good day to begin with, but when he entered the premise, he instantly regretted his decision to go solo. To be fair this was self-inflicted – his colleague had suggested a sound plan about waiting for backup before entering the con that would've possibly avoided this situation for him. But at the same time he had to consider that this meant the suspect could escape at any moment; plus why lie? He wanted to get this over with as soon and swiftly as possible. Fenz knew this was her teammate's modus operandi. She would understand.
It had taken a few hot awkward seconds for security to understand he wasn't a cosplayer, actually was there on a mission. Another awkward few moments for them to let him through. The lobby didn't improve the situation at all; his nose, usually great for sniffing danger, was completely overwhelmed by the ambient scent of nerdiness and internal cringe on his part. This added to the very nature of his mission... not only could he still not believe he was now reduced to running after giant plush animals, but this would prove very challenging. Of all the situations in his career where he had to stay aware of anyone in his surroundings, this one seemed like a mockery. On one hand, he knew exactly what he was looking for. On the other hand... it was basically a giant plush animal. He grumbled in frustration. He hated how badly he wanted to catch this big fluffy blue husky. Between this, and the weirdo in underoos from earlier, the day had been marked with childish nonsense – and the bright side was, he realized, to be the adult in the room.
Strolling through the lobby, trying to make a way for himself among the mass of synthetic fur and avoiding a few fools who confused him for a cosplayer, he started feeling dizzy. Scanning the surroundings for his prey, moving from one brightly colored suit to the next, his eyes started tiring out; the confusing splashes of neon colors started mixing and morphing in his head into a giant spiraling mess of sensory overload. He had been fine under objectively worse conditions before, but for some reason, this particular environment was starting to stress him out to the point he was losing his wits. All of this from a bunch of big plush animals, one of which, lurking somewhere, an escaped convict considered armed and dangerous. He would make sure she would pay for putting him through this... if she was so unthreatened by ridicule, she would hide disguised in a goofy costume, then she could have her mugshot taken in it too. He would personally make sure of it.
As he was musing so on autopilot, absent-mindedly scanning through the crowd, he suddenly, at the turn of a corridor, set his sore eyes on it : a bright blue husky standing right there... hastily pulling back into a corner, he carefully took a better look at the suit; the green details matched. Jackpot!
There she was, in the open, as if blissfully unaware, sure of the security her disguise was providing her. It looked so good, he checked a third time. Perhaps a little shorter than he had thought. But he hadn't seen this particular set of mismatched colors anywhere else. There was no possible doubt : that was his blue husky...
“Hey you! Come over here!” he screamed, to general surprise.
Time froze in an instant. The blue husky turned its head slowly in direction of Mackey, saw him; broke away running.
“Stop right there, criminal scum!!” Mackey yelled, pulling out his gun; chaos erupted immediately. Some panicked passersby were trying to rush out of the way, tripping over each others, screaming in fear, causing a commotion; some others pointing out the fact the officer wasn't wearing the right costume for that pop culture reference. Mackey looked up in horror as the blue husky slipped through the multicolored mass.
“That blue guy's an imposter!!” he screamed in desperation, cursing himself for the botched arrest. He could only resume the chase and hope somebody would've heard him and stopped his prey or directed him to where she'd gone. All he could make out from the crowd were sus amongus references.
“You can't escape, motherfucker!” he growled under his breath, angered and frustrated from the lack of cooperation of the attendance, making his way through the great wall of fur, trying to figure out where he should go next. From what he could tell from scouting the surroundings, there wasn't a direct way out of the building from this way : his blue husky was trapped.
Now for the “announcement”. It's not much but basically as fun as it is to design some random suits, I thought it could be fun to involve some volunteers. If you have a fursuit design to submit, whether it's something you own or something you just came up with and want to be featured in this story, feel free to share. Don't worry, you don't have to be err... involved in the action, can always just be a background character. Although if I have your permission that is of course an option. That is basically all.
