The hand is foreshortened, with the fingers curled back towards the palm. Since it is only an outline this can look odd. Here's a comparison of a webcam snap I took of my hand with the hand in this image so you can see what I mean.

The structure will be more apparent when it's coloured as that'll show the detail around the knuckles and such.
