“Hey, Blathers,” stated Joey, the yellow duck villager, as he waddled into the museum. “You’re looking a bit more bleeeeeck than usual.”
Blathers, the owl who managed the museum, hooted out a sigh of exasperation.
“The mayor just brought in a large collection of fossils, paintings, fish, and bugs,” he groaned. “It is the fifth day in a row that they have done this and, well, I am just feeling a bit overwhelmed.”
“That is bleeeeeck,” Joey quacked. “Just hearing about all you have to do is stressing me out.”
“Indeed,” the brown colored owl replied. “I know it is what’s best for our town, but I have lately felt like all I do anymore is take in inventory.”
Joey anxiously rubbed his wings together as his lazy nature didn’t go well with thinking about all of Blathers’ responsibilities.
“Bleeeeeck…,” he moaned awkwardly while hoping to change the subject of their discussion. “Why don’t you join me for a cup of coffee at the Roost? Take a little break from all the stress and anxiety of keeping up this place?”
“I’m afraid I cannot,” Blathers sighed as he briefly closed his eyes and shook his head. “But I do appreciate the offer.”
“How about this?” blushed Joey as he held out a leaf to the overworked owl. “This helps me relax when I feel all bleeeeeck. Perhaps it will help you, too.”
Blathers took the leaf, observed it closely, and tucked it under his wing.
“Thanks,” he said dismissively.
The diapered duck blushed even more as he started to waddle off towards The Roost.
“Catch you later, Blathers,” he waved with worry. “I’m just trying to help.”
The bespectacled owl hooted out a deep sigh before leaving his post and heading towards the cart he had placed today’s donations into.
“There are times I truly regret my life choices,” he moaned while starting to move the cart towards one of the galleries. “However, I doubt someone, like Joey, could ever truly appreciate nor understand being held to such high standards.”

“…This one goes here,” Blathers spoke with exhaustion as he went about preparing yet another item for display in the museum. He had no idea how much time had passed nor did he really care.
“With my luck,” he stated with resignation. “The mayor will just come by tomorrow with another large batch of new items for our town’s museum. And, as always, I’ll be in solitude getting everything together until I am able to do no more than just pass out in my bed before having to wake up and do it all over again.”
“Hey, Blathie!” called Blathers’ little sister, Celeste. “I thought I’d find you here.”
“Where else would you find me?” he stated sarcastically as he performed an exaggerated shrug.

The leaf that Joey had given Blathers slipped out as a result of his gesture, drifted to the floor, and turned into an adult-sized baby diaper.
“What’s this…?” wondered Celeste as she reached for and picked up the folded-up undergarment that she quickly recognized as being one of Joey’s diapers.
“What’s what?” asked Blathers as he turned to see his sister beginning to unfold a disposable diaper that was covered in stars, moons, and planets.
CRINKLE
“Oh, Blathie,” Celeste cooed with sympathy. “I didn’t know you had been working yourself so hard that you’ve been unable to take bathroom breaks.”
“What?” he gulped with disbelief upon hearing his sister so quickly come to such a conclusion as to why he would have had a diaper on his person. “That’s Joey’s!”
“How long have you been getting diapers from Joey?” she inquired with sisterly concern. “I knew you were dedicated to your work, but never thought you’d push yourself to where you’d rather wear and use a diaper than ask for help.”
Blathers’ face burned bright red as he listened to all his sister had to say.
“Celeste,” he tried to say with as much composure as he could muster. “I can assure you I have not used such a thing for its, uh, intended purpose.”
“Oh…?” she wondered. “Then what are you doing with one of Joey’s diapers?”
Blathers had to think back to his earlier discussion with the diaper clad duck.
“He gave that to me thinking it would help me relax,” he squawked with frustration. “Though, if I had known what it was, I would have given it right back.”
“Hmm…,” considered Celeste as she ran her wing about the diaper’s pillow-like exterior and interior surface.
“It does feel very soft.”
“You can have it if you want,” Blathers scoffed. “It is of no use to me.”
Celeste felt a slight blush form across her face.
“I’ll take it,” she chirped while looking her older brother straight in the eyes. “But only to put it on you.”
“What?” the bowtie-wearing owl gasped with disbelief. “Whyever would you suggest such a thing!”
Celeste grew an ear-to-ear smile.
“So we can play mommy and baby,” she cooed. “Do you remember all the fun we had together when you’d let me be your mommy, Blathie?”
“…,” Blathers felt paralyzed as his mind raced to make sense of his sister’s statement.
“C’mon, Blathie,” she pleaded. “You really do need to relax and it was so much fun pretending to be your mommy.”
Blathers felt a slight smile form across his beak as he thought back on his younger years with his baby sister and how she’d make him a nest out of their pillows and blankets to rest in.
“Those were simpler times,” he remarked. “But that was then and this is now. There is just no time for such childish things when you are held to the high standards in which I am.”
“Only you hold yourself to such insane standards, Blathie,” protested Celeste. “Everyone in our town does something to help it thrive in their own way. Nothing bad is going to happen if you just take some time off to relax and have some fun.”
“…,” Blathers looked agitated, but did not say a word in reply to his sister.
“How about I make you a deal, Blathie,” she suggested with a serious tone. “You and I get out of this museum and play house over at my favorite lookout spot and I won’t go telling the town about how you wear diapers when you think nobody is looking.”
“Are you blackmailing me?” he asked with shock and disbelief.
“If it gets you out of this museum,” she firmly replied. “Then I guess I am.”
Blathers didn’t know if it was just his exhaustion after days of nonstop work, his sister’s insistence, or a combination of both. However, he concluded there would be no harm in respecting his sister’s request. Especially if it spared his reputation from being tarnished.
“Okay,” he sighed with a hoot of acceptance. “I’ll try your idea.”

Celeste returned the disposable diaper back to its more compact, and less obvious, leaf form and tucked it under the pink bow on her head.
“Meet me at my favorite lookout spot at 1:00 AM,” she said with a wink. “This is going to be just like when we were kids. I feel younger even just thinking of it.”

The night air felt refreshing to Blathers as he made his way to the bluff that his sister often frequented on her nights of stargazing.
“Are you ready, Blathie?” she softly cooed while patting at the side of the makeshift nest she had assembled out of pillows and blankets she had piled up inside a wicker basket.
“I suppose so,” he replied with as much confidence as he could muster. “Are you sure nobody will see us?”
“Positive,” grinned Celeste as she pulled out a handful of leaves. “Once I get you all comfy-cozy for our game of house, I will be planting these pitfall seeds around the bluff to make certain nobody ruins our fun together.”
“Clever,” he said.
Celeste smiled as she allowed herself to think back on what it was like when she and her older brother were kids. The time in life where neither were burdened by any responsibility beyond learning and having fun while they did it.
“So…,” the brown owl hooted. “Now what?”
Celeste put her wings together and giggled.
“You lay yourself down in the nest, silly,” she blushed. “Then mommy will take care of the rest.”
“Mommy?” he gulped as he started to get second thoughts on agreeing to such a thing.
“Oh, Blathie,” she assured. “It’s just pretend. You haven’t gotten so prim and proper that you’ve forgotten how to play pretend, have you?”
“No,” a flustered Blathers replied as he strode towards the makeshift nest and laid himself down inside its cozy collection of pillows and blankets. “Now what?”
BA-WUMPF
Celeste sat down the leaf she had tucked inside of her bow so that it would turn back into the diaper that Joey had given to Blathers.
“Mommy puts her baby into his soft and cushiony diaper so baby Blathie can better forget about all of that annoying, grownup stuff he has been thinking way too much about,” she chirped while using the bowl-shape of the makeshift nest to hold her brother’s legs up enough that she could slip the unfolded diaper underneath his bottom, pull the front over his midsection, and then position all four of the hook-and-loop tapes in place over the diaper’s landing zone. “Voila!”
“I feel absolutely absurd,” pouted Blathers. “How is this supposed to-”
SPOP
“-THUK, THUK,” was all Blathers could blab as his sister inserted a pacifier into his mouth.
“Now take a moment to just pretend you have no other responsibility in the world other than watching the stars with me,” she stated while placing a midnight-blue blanket down over him that was covered in glow-in-the-dark crescent moons and stars. “Mommy Celeste will be right back to check on little Blathie after she makes sure we don’t get disturbed.”
Blathers sighed as he looked towards the clear, night sky. How long had it been since he had taken the time to appreciate all the wonderful stars and star formations that lit up the night?
CRINKLE-CRINKLE
“THUK?” he wondered as he had suddenly become more aware of the cushiony diaper that was between his legs. It wasn’t a bad feeling, but why wasn’t it a bad feeling? Also, as his sister had left to plant pitfall seeds, why didn’t he just remove the pacifier she had placed into his beak?
“Perhaps…,” he thought while actively sucking on the pacifier. Each of the in-and-out actions of the bulb serving as a reminder that he didn’t have to worry about saying anything to anyone. The rhythm of the pacifier becoming much like a metronome that seemed to further soothe his worried mind from all the troubling thoughts he had allowed himself to become overwhelmed with. “Perhaps there is something to this after all."

That was a very sweet story, and I always love seeing Joey worked into them. Great work!
I have a story in progress for the contest that has part of the same theme (Blathers and job stress), but I think the rest of it will be different enough that hopefully it won't come across as too similar to yours.
