this is the completed mask that i've been working on for the past week and a bit, it comes in 3 parts, the mask, the hood and the hat.
the mask:
- base is a plastic mask bought from an art shop ands a paper beak i made myself
- papier mache was layered next using small squares and strips of paper and a mix of about 60-40 water to pva glue
- after i had a solid base of papier mache (pressing and flicking the beak no longer deformed it) i painted over the entire thing with a thick layer of pva glue, this was to make it smooth all over and to seal it ready for painting
- finally i painted the entire thing with a skull white paint from games workshop (i had it lying arround, you could use any paint you want)... note: as my glue was old it kept cracking as it dried, this was easily solved with a coat of water then painting over it again
hood:
- made from black velvet I followed the pattern and instructions provided in the following link: http://fursuit.livejournal.com/2154613.html
- the hole in the face was measured by simply drawing a template on paper of how big the mask was and allowing plenty of overlap
hat:
- an old leather fadora i bought a few years ago, i thought it topped off the design nicely and hid the stitching of the hood
