Using Manga Studio for color is getting a bit easier. Still no real replacement for my bloom effect, which is why everything here looks rather washed as I went in pursuit of that, but save that it's not too horribly discernible from the Painter pages in terms of the coloring style, I think. Getting the saturation more under control and experimenting with the shading to get the results I want. It's getting a bit of a mixed reaction on that front, but such is to be expected when transitioning between tools.
That aside, due to how Painter handles transparency half the time, I'm not totally sure I could've pulled off the energy radiating off of Sam before, so I'm kinda happy about how that turned out. Also, I tend to be a bit looser in Manga Studio, which is effecting the line work in some interesting ways, especially when it comes time for backgrounds as I'm doing for this week's upcoming page.
There's also been some constant tinkering with Jamal's balloons and text, a bit of a complicated process as my previous method was hand-drawn balloons and the Kait's were colored with the same watercolor tools as the pages, so I had a hand-painted violet-to-black wash thing going on. Now I'm making due with an inner glow after exporting the balloons on their own out of MS and converting the layer to alpha values and junk. It's not as delicate and pretty, and CS5 does some weird stuff with the font itself that's resulted in me dabbling with it for legibility, but it all feels a bit moot with Jamal leaving this page anyway. Jenya's text will likely be less problematic and I doubt she'll be far behind.
That rambling about my process completed, enjoy the fruits of my ongoing labors. I'll continue to post my self-perceived highlights here as I see fit.
