Possibly die freezing and shave weeks off the journey or possibly die to the legions of Chaos, most likely becoming a part of their army while not getting much further than they had already.
Like she said, two bad choices and this is definitely the less bad one. Leo is too headstrong and believes physically fighting Chaos will save the day. Remember, the uncorrupted are losing the war. Luna assembled this team as a desperate gambit, not because she thought they could kill the problem away.
