Miners in the Odraani Paktum are the single most important workforce; their hard work is essential to keep raw materials flowing to feed the ever growing empire and the demands of its trade partners.
While many colonised worlds have their own mines, the overwhelming majority of facilities are found on uninhabitable, hostile worlds that are not deemed to be protected.
Such worlds' miners use remote controlled mining machines to drill place, charges, reinforce tunnels and extract the minerals, with the crew being housed in a save, pressurised, climate controlled station. They are small, cramped, but it is a revered and prestigious occupation.

Someone gets it at long last. I'm a fan of the space adventure genre as much as the next internet idiot, but every time I see a space suit in a planned expedition trying to do manual labor, I scream. Hand portable tool oriented labor is small brain if you can operate an automated vehicle. Heck, even having pilots for them might be a bit of a stretch, the chances are good self-piloted drones are merely being overseen by a few operators to screen for errors or unplanned events.
YESSS, REMONTE MINING IS SO COOL
Even without that aspect, this is such a wonderful bit of stage-setting / background making, as you always do. <3 A totally believable backdrop; the desk, the console, the tech, the shelves, the kettle, the tightly clustered panels and wiring. :>

I love art with details like this that you can get utterly lost in. The books have actual titles! The perspective is amazing and all the little details like the lights and the tape on the chair from it being worn down and discarded drink cups make this look like an environment properly lived in. Thank you for sharing!
