I backed a game on Kickstarter and got to actually write a backstory for Crafty if the game gets funded.
Leader of a group of escaped mind-readers and psychics from a totalitarian dictatorship, Byron has been trying unsuccessfully to apply for refugee status for his runaways before the government can find him and reabsorb him to the secret police that kidnapped him as a child once they found out he could read minds. They raised Byron to be one of their finest field operatives, using his powers to extract confessions and solve crimes. However, upon reading their minds he discovered plans to assassinate political opponents who sought to reform the government, which would have resulted in the deaths or imprisonment of those suspected of disloyalty, ultimately leading to his own commanding officers assuming control of the government entirely. Rather than being used as pawns, he and his fellow psychics fled the country entirely but are still being pursued by those who once gave them orders. Byron's powers of telepathy are formidable enough to influence others to drive enemies insane and with enough of his fellow mind readers he can even generate powerful hallucinations and cause panic attacks in those would seek to oppose him. The only problem- he has no control over the powers so he's constantly eavesdropping on everyone's thoughts, to the point where it drives him insane as well
