old commission
rnixon's otter girl Haukena, a fertility shaman,pregnant and offering thanks to the sunset.
i'm posting these three alternate versions of this picture that were done back in 2012 - the only differences being the colour of the border. The one posted back then was rnixon's fave ( i think it's my fave as well ) from around a dozen or so. Since the only difference was the border colour i didn't think it was worth posting my fave variants...but, over the years i started to think "why not post them?" and i couldn't see a good reason not to ... so ....
i'll move these versions to scraps in a few days.
Along with posting these i upped the resolution of the orginal to 4k as well :

re first ; yes and no.
The first commission i accepted was from Rebby (then SugarTail) but mid way through she was hit with money woes - i liked her as a person (we're still friends here), and i liked my drawing, so i finished it as a gift art ( i had previouslly done gift art for Vicky Wyman and Threyon ). i had this idea that if i was doing art for someone that i had to stop being lazy and take my game up a few notches. After i get a bunch of projects done - if i'm still on the right side of the dirt - i might open for the occasion commission just to have that extra incentive ... or not -i'm not going to second guess what my interests will be in a few years.

So i think the Haukena pic is my 2nd or 3rd commission - and a good thing too, as i had endeavored to up my skills with each of those - so i was used to using different colours of pencil on multiple layers of 11 x 17 paper on my light board. So i had the idea to put Haukena's hair on one page, and the bowls of fruit on another page, etc etc - and then inking these combined pages on one page ... i don't think i would have thought of that before doing those two pictures.

There is a mix of old-fashioned nostalgia styles i used here. The basic style is from Alfons Mucha's 1890's style - then the background mountains and sky are referencing 1930s/early 1940's travel posters/magazine ads - some of the colours and gradients are influenced by 1960's black-light posters - there are also some elements of Vaughn Bode, Terrie Smith, and Michele Light ... so a big mish-mash of nostalgia styles.
