I finally picked up Elden Ring, and I was rather disturbed by the amount of animal cruelty in the game. Dark Souls was quite grim but didn't seem to have any lasting torment. Elden Ring on the other hand really bothered me with its bird feet amputation, nailing shackles into lions, giant skewering, and I'm sure there's other I'd missed.
The Red Wolf of Radagon has a lot of earrings, and it's been another one of the things that's been bothering me as what might be just more needless cruelty. However, since the wolf can cast spells, and there's half wolves in the game, like Blaidd, it's possible that the Red Wolf and others are fully sentient like any human, and thus may have been a fully voluntary want. An act of personal adornment rather than harming some helpless animal. So this piece is just to canonize that as much as I can, or at least share my own head canon. The Red Wolf(s) wanted to practice magic, get piercings, breed half wolves, and so on and so forth.
Can't do much to help the other animals, but at least this way the wolves are fine.
