After an attempted sabotage nearly gets him killed and suspects that he's got someone worse than Eggman as his clientelle. His room at the Restoration is ajar when Whisper comes along at Lanolin's order, the boss lady wanting the two to kiss and make up already.
With all the stealth she's learned, Whisper slips into the room and makes herself know by audibly locking the door to make "Duo" jump. Part of her had been starting to believe that her former friend was trying to start over with a new identity. She could never forgive him but living with Tangle taught her to be open to anybody changing. Even Surge.
So learning the truth wasn't so much upsetting as it was... disappointing. A potential fresh start. A new life where he didn't have to hurt anybody else. Whisper had some semblance of hope that their conflict was a thing of the past.
But here they go again...
A part of me feels that part of Whisper's character arc would be starting to accept the idea of Duo being Mimic's way of starting over with nobody knowing who he was... only to feel pity and disappointment over such a waste. This was also inspired by this famous Avatar scene: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nFmYoN8vWdE
