The old and the new- Metra's new bilevel electric cars on its former Illinois Central, Electric District pass each other at Van Buren Street Station in downtown Chicago. Delivery to Metra began in 2008, and they are only the second set of new equipment since the line was electrified by IC in the 1920s. The older cars to the right were built by St Louis Car Company in the early 1970s- these replaced the original 1920s-era single-level electric multiple unit cars.
