Just think of how fast a drum beat the baxxids can do! https://youtu.be/OnkTUKtxRic?t=27
I find it interesting the degrees to which some Baxxid cover up their eyes- from having all six exposed, to having them covered by a translucent veil, to having two or even four covered up with wigs or cloth shrouds. Makes me wonder to what degree it affects their vision and whether the larger eyes perhaps perceive different wavelengths than the smaller ones.
My theory is that the eyes are for differing levels of illumination. The big ones for near-total-darkness so they can navigate underground by the faintest bioluminescence, probably with low resolution and no color vision, but blinded by bright light. The small ones for out in the sun, providing high resolution color vision. And the middle ones for shade and twilight.
Yay happy reunion!
Really curious though if the city leader will need to enact another form of 'toothless punishment' though here. Though I suppose it would just be easier to spin a narrative on how that thief was a repeat offender, whether or not he actually was, and thus his swift execution was inevitable yadda yadda, brave Baxxid defenders of our cities great craftspeople, maybe even a 'commendation' to the swift thinking Kalgkur for him to be moved to patrol the Teeth.
Where naturally any potential actual criminals could be kept well away from him as he perhaps unofficially assists in the species studies of a certain researcher.

Zhretta a) seems to not like Kuldra in general (the last time the latter appeared, she quickly excused herself) and b) seems quite protective of Kalgkur and absolutely does not approve of his budding relationship with Nell, so her reaction to Kuldra fawning over it seems to make sense in that context
Val has an analogy in the very early comics introducing Baxxids. If you took humans as kind of a trumpet, then Baxxids are more like bagpipes. And their range of frequencies are wider than ours. So they can mimic human speech, but also converse in a frequency range we can't make out other than a perceptible buzzing sensation.
There's an anthology series about that, "Humans Wanted." Much of the stories involve aliens being utterly confused by human's ability to forming bonds so easily, not just outside their species but even with inanimate objects. It's weird when the human engineer starts talking to the ship, but even weirder when the human can interpret the hum of the engine and whine of electronics as an answer
There's a recurring theme of the aliens being amazed by the extreme lengths humans will go to in order to protect those they have a strong bond with, beyond all apparent rationality. Having a human on your crew might drive everyone else half-mad with their bizarre habits. But if your ship is damaged, trapped and alone? That human will bend the laws of society, physics and common sense to save anyone and everyone they care about, and they will do it without a thought towards cost or personal risk.

Fourth panel is so adorable >w<
While the last one... well... it seems someone requires an anti-jealous bonk? Not that I blame her for this, poor Zhretta, wanna give her a pat on the back and/or a hug.
Btw also makes me wanna say, gonna love the script, this story is really nicely done... at least I feel so, I'm not an expert on the subject...

As always, it amazes me how clearly you can show emotions in every type of creature you portray, no matter their features.
Zhretta looks like she's holding back tears, which is impressive, considering we never even see Baxxid blink. Whatever the underlying reason for her deep caring for Kalgkur, you can clearly tell her heart is broken.
I'm glad Nell and Kalgkur are okay though. Even if the whack was well-earned, Kuldra is right; they are very precious together.

I love this.
Also, I think many of us know somebody who is so sweet, so bubbly, so loving, and so much into gushing how much they love this or that and how wonderful everything is that we just want to whack 'em. Braxid are fortunate in that they are so well armored that they can actually WHACK when they want to. Lucky them. :D

The species description comic stated that Baxxid can tell, but they appear indistinguishable to humans (and presumably yinglets). They may have some dimorphism that isn't apparent to human senses - perhaps something in the sound of their communications, or some marking outside of the human visual range, or even chemical.
I've been curious about the relationship between Kalgkur and Zhretta for a while now.
She has that headwear with the golden decorations and jewelry which gives me the impression she has a certain rank in baxxid society. Maybe she's even an eldar, which would also imply she is older than Kalgkur, I guess ...
Does she have motherly feelings for him? Is she actually his mother?
Is he some sort of familiar soul to her?
I would kind of doubt it's a romance thing, since they seem to be of different ranks and social status seems to mean a lot to baxxid. Who knows, though.
She obviously cares a lot about him, that's for sure.

Hullo there OOPs followers! I'm here to remind you once again that there's a place called "Top Web Comics" https://www.topwebcomics.com/?home=3 that compiles comics from various places. There's a bunch of cool stuff there. They have monthly votes, so you can support OOPs there. You can vote once a day per device, so your PC, laptop, tablet, phone, etc.
I've noticed that you can sometimes even get in extra votes from different IP addresses, or if you're disconnected from your IP and open up again later.
It closed out last month at around 1152 votes and 36th place. It's currently at 909 votes and 41st place. The highest it's reached is 36th place, and the top vote getters seem to end up with something close to 20,000 votes.
Vote early, vote often! Help OOPs get noticed!
