I’ve been wanting to make something that portrays the bond between kobolds while providing you all with some wholesome kobold lore regarding clerics.

A Cleric’s Oath
In the heart of the vast subterranean cave network that served as the home of the kobold tribe, nestled amidst stalactites and phosphorescent fungi, lived Nixi—a venerable cleric who tended to the needs of her kin with a tender heart and unwavering devotion. Nixi was a vision of wisdom and grace, her scales shimmering with the patina of age yet her spirit vibrant and youthful. As one of the tribe's clerics, she held a sacred duty—tending to the kobold eggs, nurturing the hatchlings, and imparting the teachings of their dragon goddess to the young ones who scurried eagerly around her.
It was a crisp morning when Nixi noticed something amiss. Among the carefully arranged eggs in the communal nursery, one stood out—a delicate orb with fine cracks snaking across its surface. Nixi's heart sank at the sight, for she knew the delicate balance of life that hung in the balance. With practiced hands, she gently cradled the damaged egg, her touch as gentle as the whispers of the underground streams. She knew what needed to be done. Fetching a pouch of shimmering Blazen Opal dust from a nearby alcove, Nixi carefully filled the cracks in the egg's shell, each movement infused with a silent prayer to their dragon goddess for strength and healing. As she worked, Nixi hummed a soothing melody—a lullaby passed down through generations, believed to carry the essence of protection and hope. The melody reverberated through the chamber, mingling with the soft murmur of the underground winds and the distant echoes of the tribe's bustling life.
Days turned into nights as Nixi kept vigil over the egg, her Amber eyes never straying from its form. She monitored its temperature, adjusted its position with meticulous care, and whispered words of encouragement into the stillness of the cave. Despite her worry, Nixi clung to her faith. She believed with every fiber of her being that their dragon goddess would bless the egg with renewed vitality—a testament to the resilience and determination that defined their ancient tribe.
Then, one quiet evening, as the echoes of her lullaby faded into the embrace of darkness, a stirring within the egg caught Nixi's attention. She leaned closer, her heart racing with anticipation, as a tiny crack appeared—a testament to the miracle unfolding before her eyes. With bated breath, Nixi watched as the eggshell gave way, revealing a sight that filled her soul with awe and joy—a baby kobold with scales adorned in shimmering opal freckles, a testament to the bond between their tribe and their revered dragon goddess.
Tears of joy welled in Nixi's eyes as she gently cradled the newborn in her claws, feeling the warmth of new life against her chest. The hatchling blinked up at her with eyes as bright as polished gems, its tiny form radiating with the promise of a future embraced by love and faith. Around them, the cavern echoed with the soft rumble of approval—a whispered acknowledgment from the depths of the earth itself. Nixi knew then, with a certainty that surpassed words, that their dragon goddess had blessed the hatchling with strength and resilience—a testament to the power of faith and the unwavering determination of a loving cleric. As she held the newborn close, Nixi felt a profound sense of fulfillment wash over her. In the heart of the underground realm, amidst the stalactites and phosphorescent fungi, she knew that her life's purpose was fulfilled—a testament to the enduring bond between mother and child, and the sacred trust placed in their dragon goddess’s embrace.

Really pretty work: the picture is gorgeous and you did a wonderful job combining it with the short narrative and really helping bring out the emotion and sense of love and compassion. I adore the details in your art and the way you capture the scaly reptilian 'bold bodies, and the warmth and life in their eyes. I adore the cleric's costuming, too: you can instantly see what her role is, as much as you can her compassion and love.
The story is really nice, and I like the way you balance faith and personal struggle. You have a great flow and rhythm in your story and it's paced really nicely to give us a glimpse into their culture and Nixi's character. Really wonderful work.

Just recently I thought about it and realized that no matter how much I searched I saw very, VERY few similar arts with small/newborn kobold cubs. And then such a gift!
So this art is triple valuable - not only for its amazing details (the mushroom staff of illumination, tail bags!, opalescent scales on the newborn and the ritual marks on the cleric, the cracks on the egg filled with opal dust... just amazing), but also for its unique theme. Plus a very interestingly conveyed look of classic kobolds.
P.S. - yea, with such care and the fact that kobold eggs are incredibly hardy, the baby was only safe.
