I really wasn't very confident about these vocals but Fox asked me to try and sing them softer at the start to build up towards the end. I usually shy away from soft vocals because I'd never felt they were anything special before. However, I think it is something I might have to play around with more to add interest and expression when I sing.

I am bad at taking compliments as you know, I never know what to say but still want to express my gratitude.
My Aunt (who is in a National Orchestra) commented yesterday on the cover too and suggested I go get voice coaching for technique. It's the first time anyone in my family has taken any notice of my singing so I was pleased. I think in the future I might try it out.

Goodness X3 I find it hard to accept such compliments but I do appreciate it very much. Ocarinas are very pretty little instruments, I don't know how hard they are to play correctly, is it hard or easy? I have seen some really pretty little ones too, all sorts of shapes out there XD
Ocarinas tend to vary in complexity. Some are extremely simple with just a few holes and a very limited range. They can also be made to be much more complex with a large number of holes and a much broader range. Playing correctly depends on the ocarina and the maker. Luckily for me, the fingering on mine (a 12-hole model) is very much like the sax I played back in high school.
I really should try recording again and post it for people to listen. The one I have up right now is from only having my new one for less than a week.

Ah! Yes, I had watched a lot of youtubers playing their ocarinas. Some were tiny ones with only a few holes, some were more complicated ones. I expect it's the same as any other instrument with some time and practice. I've not often heard them in music actually, but they do sound soothing. I'd like to hear if you put anything up :D
Ocarinas tend to get treated as an 'effect' or 'mood' side instrument if they're brought in at all. It is a surprisingly versatile instrument in the hands of someone who knows how to play it though.

Funny thing. I've only just finally listened to the original version of this song, and I would not have fallen in love with this song had you not done this cover. As done by Keane, it's a good song, but I have to admit, I love your vocals and touch for this song so much more~
Just heard this sung on U.S.A. national television on a show called "The Voice", just wanted to congratulate you on such a fantastic feat!
But I've got to admit, it's hard not to fall in love with this song (I personally feel it deserves a little more attention). Whether it's the calm and mellow tone, or the harmony of the rhythm, I can't decide: but something about this keeps dragging me back to hit the play button again.

Hi there :3 I am sorry this is a bit late, I have neglected this account as well as my art account for a month or more. I jsut wanted to say that I really am glad you enjoyed my cover and you're right, it is quite an underrated little song. It has a beautiful tone to it and I really enjoyed singing it. I feel I could do better now, but Fox asked me to try to sing it really softly which I wasn't as confident with, but it's all part of learning how to sing and also learning what I can and can't do.

Yeah I love that album too. If you didn't check it out already go listen to Strangeland (the album and the song) on youtube :) it's a bit like their older stuff. ^_^! By the way, I noticed when you reply to comments you don't hit "reply", just so you know! It's over on the right hand side of the screen on each comment. :3 Also if people leave you shouts on your page they can only see your replies on their page, not yours. I noticed that you shouted back to peppercoyote on your own page so he wont see it there. :3
Hey, don't give up. It's not easy to learn... picking is very difficult at first. You will get the hang of it if you keep working on it I'm sure. I have actually gotten lazy and have a bad habit... I pick only with my index finger ! Totally not the right thing to do! Just keep at it, but don't make yourself upset or angry with it, that'll discourage you.
So let me think.... Crystal-clear vocals, beautiful piano part, great vocal clarity. Also, the fact you have added some extra musical features to really make this rendition your own is very nice to hear. I haven't heard a cover of this quality anywhere else. This easily rivals the original in my opinion. Very well done.

Sorry if the last comment was a bit soppy/gushing... I tend to do that without realising when I comment. Anyway, yeah as I said the song is absolutely brilliant!
On a side-note; I wish I could find the courage to do something like this. I've been told many times that I can sing well but I can never find the courage to do so. Well not in front of anyone anyway.
I wondered if you could perhaps give any tips on how to deal with that? It's just that I'd like to sing in front of people but am too afraid to do so.

Hmm well, I am the same actually. I find it hard to sing in front of people physically. I've always been underconfident about myself, and i waver when i sing to people. It's probably lack of experience. I have to do this in front of some FA musicians at the end of January which is scary!
I would say that, from my experience with posting to online galleries, you have to just brace yourself for good and bad replies. There is always at least one guy who says lots of critical comments when you post things up, and that's cool so long as you accept it and can either gain something from it or let it go. It's tough when you start out, every post is nerve wracking. I get nervous now too! I just got used to the good and the not so good comments, and I gradually got a thicker skin, and I basically do what I love to do which is singing. If someone doesn't like it, that's ok, cuz music is so different and you can't please everyone.
My advice is to just go for it, and you'll take something away from the experience each time. At the end of the day, the world is huge and is full of different people, and you can't please all of them. So do your own thing, and find confidence in the good feedback. If you want to sing in front of people properly, then you have to find a good friend or someone who will not tear you apart for your nerves affecting your voice. Just ask them to listen to help you gain confidence. I also tend to sing at work and people hear me sometimes, I try to do that so that I tackle the nerves a step at a time. Before that, I wouldn't dare sing in front of anyone in any capacity.
