You know it may be a crazy idea but what if instead of running away from the monsters he tries treating them like dogs I mean they do look like giant monster dogs so just try to give them some butt scratches and treats like meat or scratch them under their chin or belly's just my opinion tho but thought it would be worth the try lol.
