Kitsune, also known as Trickster Foxes, are a form of Yokai, or supernatural creatures, from Japanese folklore. Associated with powers of transformation that grow stronger as they age and are said to live hundreds to thousands of years. It is said their existence developed due to the high amount of foxes in ancient Japan when they lived in particularly close quarters with humans. Beginning to appear in folklore around the 8th century CE in one of the oldest official historical accounts of Japan called the Nihon Shoki, they are said to come in two types: good and mischievous with an advanced hierarchy in the ‘good’ type.. Said to be messengers of good luck or good harvests while others enjoy causing trouble or enacting revenge on humans. The Kitsune in this illustration is an original character named Seraphine and has a unique attribute of multi-colored tail tips.

Rose Quartz, also called the Heart Stone, is a light pink form of Clear Quartz known for it’s use in jewelry. It can sometimes occur in darker varities of pink called Strawberry Rose Quartz or pale purple versions called Lavendar Rose Quartz. It is a mineral that can produce a distinct six-rayed star shape when cut correctly. It is said to have been used as early as 600 B.C.E and was found in Egyptian tombs in face masks said to be used to remove wrinkles and clear complexions. Spiritually, it is well known for it’s connections to romance, compassion, love, and intimacy. Rose Quartz is said to aid in opening the heart for healing, increase feelings of happiness, and even aiding in reducing nightmares during sleep. It is a calming, emotionally protective crystal aiding in healing past traumas by instilling hope and empathy for yourself and others.

The Wild Rose, or Rose Acicularis, is a genus of flowering plants within the Rosaceae family. Also known as Arctic Rose, it grows throughout the Northern Hemisphere throughout Norh America, Europe, and Asia. They are a “species rose” which means it is a species of rose that is a true wildflower, not a hybridization created by humans, and grows with no help from humans. In Native American culture, Wild Roses are a symbol of life and vitality. Thought to aid in protection from ghosts or spirit, they were often hung on cradles to protect babies from spirits intending ill will. Their fruit, called Rosehips, is used in medicine and eaten as food with high levels of Vitamin A and C. In Greek mythology, it represents immortal love, a deep union that would never fade, and had strong ties to dieties such as Adonis, Aphrodite, and Cupid.

The element of fire is connected to passion and invigoration. It inspires, emboldens, and fuels us to work hard and overcome obstacles that may be in our way. Fire feeds our inner creativity and builds our courage. Reminding us to stand tall and firm in defense of our beliefs and morals, yet also opening the mind to new information by burning down the restraints of ignorant thought. Never let yourself become stagnant. Wildfires may be dangerous, but the fertile ash left behind can fuel the growth of stronger plants and trees to create an even more lush environment. In this way, the element of Fire is a symbol of rebirth and the never-ending search for knowledge. When a trial appears, it is a lesson in disguise.
