while this is a completly random avali with no lore behind it my brain kinda made stuff up for the little contraption on its back:

In essence its an Artifical Egg ( AE),
think of an Incubator of sorts but carriable and more less housing the remains of an egg that couldnt sustain its shell
(be it due to diseases, damage or war situations etc..)

Specialised Egg Tender Packs (often augmented to the teeth) are tasked with the care of said eggs,
These Packs are widely respected for their work, more so then usual Egg Tenders/Guards due to how emotionally taxing (and difficult ) the care is
with most fetuses barely making it through the Gestation time.

The tech may be available but its not perfect by a long shot.
