Character Reference -- Hippocath
I've really had the itch to make a more 'stereotypical' dragon character for quite a bit... and part of the whole reason i got into the fantasy genre and dragons and the like was because of the Dragonriders of Pern series. Long long time fan since I was a kid. Somehow never actually drew a pernese dragon up until recently despite the fact that some of my older dragon art is reffed from Pern book covers and the like lol
So here's Hippocath! The name is based on the latin name for seahorse. He's a blue dragon. True to Pernese lore, this makes him a fairly low ranking and not very intelligent dragon. He can be depicted anthro or feral, and is built "semi anthro" so he could move equally on two legs or four. He's quite big, around 8 feet tall when standing upright, but he'd be overall easygoing, kind, very gentle, unwilling to do harm to "People" ( catergorized as non-feral sentient creatures - be them human, furry, ect. Ferals don't get the same respect.. as they're probably food )
In his personal lore he got stolen from a clutch and got brought off-planet as an egg. During this travel, the egg got a tiny bit damaged. That's what resulted in him being notably smaller than average blue dragons, and also lost him the necessary soulbond that true Pernese dragons need to survive. He's less human-dependant but could potentially form a strong bond with someone
if you've gone all this time without reading Dragonriders of Pern, I'd highly recommend at least the first three books. Dragonflight, Dragonquest, and The White Dragon.
