I just had to "Instant Fave" this image. It took me a bit to figure out the structure just before the funnel was a range finder.

Actually, I think it's a binnacle -- a precision compass (with two compensating magnets).

Now wait a minute, Perfesser. To me a Binnicle looks like a dome topped trash can with a large compass on a gimbal inside, and two "Cannonball" like magnetic compensators on either side of the can. Is this some sort of earlier design I've never seen before?

AH! I just noticed the Binnacle in the direct foreground.

Oh, you meant the thing with the long tube and lenses. That's a rangefinder. The unusual mount threw me off; I's a lot different from the ones I saw and used at the Secret Navy Research Base.

Ooo, there was a food court in my local mall that was done up to be like a sailing ship, complete with a mast that reached up to a glass top sky-line that let in sunlight through the colored sails, tables on the deck and what not. But at the front near the steering wheel was a strange looking doo-dad with two big metal orbs flanking it, and it looked similar to that!

well at least hes not on the targeting scope. i know how these things work and well... depending on the type it can cause headaches. for everyone wondering: its the bar shaped thing in the back. its a binocular with the two lenses realy far appart with some specialy designed mirrors/prisms inside that cause some sort of image split with the targeting solution being reached when the images align. ok that was a realy oversimplified explanation but it should do the job.
