Original Species: Elysian Hippogryph
The Elysian Hippogryph is a medium-sized, aerial herbivore native to the eastern part of the Continent of Elysium. Its size and aerial mobility allow it to cover vast distances to search for food. Thanks to that it can reside even in the most desolate of areas (such as the rim of the Crown of the Northern Abyss).
Elysian Hippogryphs can be distinguished from gryphons and griffins by their short feathered tails which have a vague resemblance to those of horses. Furthermore, their claws are even more hoof-like than those of large terrestrial griffins.
This species in particular is quite gregarious. Flocks of Elysian Hippogryphs can number in the dozens wherein each individual is constantly on the lookout for predators. Large wyverns, True Air Dragons, huge predatory birds, and even large gryphons are the main threats with which the hippogryphs need to contend with. When threatened, they will scatter in all directions, each individual hoping that they won't be chosen as a target.
Due to the relatively small number of predators, the Elysian Hippogryphs chose the Northern Crown of the Abyss as their main nesting site. The craggy mountainsides of the Crown provide several good spots to build a nest, with shrubs and brambles making for decent building materials.
