Cover painting for the Ren and Stimpy paperback "Don't Try This At Home."
For every cover I drew for this series, I had to submit a series of different gag sketches for approval by Nickelodeon. This cover went through more than the usual number of sketches because Nick thought the gags were "too dangerous."

Nickelodeon did everything within its power to interfere with the production of this show, which is especially dumb considering that Ren and Stimpy was a massive hit in the early 1990s. Yeah yeah, it wasn't appropriate for children... big deal! Sumner could have run it on one of the dozen OTHER networks he owned. The greedy old coot practically owned cable television at the time.
Having said all that, I can no longer think of John Kricfalusi as faultless in the death of the show. He wasted money, missed deadlines by a mile, and refused to take responsibility for his own mistakes. When he went on to make the Adult Party Cartoon and Ripping Friends, he complained endlessly that Korean animators ruined his grand vision for the shows. Oh, that was the problem? It had nothing to do with your galaxy-sized ego and losing your already tentative grasp on the concept of subtlety? All righty then. Remember kids, when you screw up, blame the foreigners!

it's a shame really he use to be really funny but his bitterness with the animation industry kind of took it's toll, i've also read his blog, he seems to know what he's talking about but i can't help but feel that he wants all animation to be like it was in the 30's and 40's and only that.
I wonder if there are only of the rejected sketches laying around somewhere because I know I for one would be very curious in seeing them. I had quite a few of your Ren & Stimpy works from back when I was a kinda......This one really rings a bell to me though I'm not sure if I actually owned it. Either way seeing these are a fantastic wave of nostalgia for me.
