
I started these years ago, but finally finished them last year. A set of fully painted joycons designed after Heart Gold and Soul Silver.
I learned a lot doing these. First thing being: spray paint is way better for this application than painting on acrylic by hand. spray paint results in thinner layers, where the acrylic here is THICC. It actually has a small problem with the buttons because they get stuck on the paint when you press them. They still work, but it's more a display piece than anything. I could sand the paint down more, but that's a whole hassle.
I would love for Nintendo to do more of this sort of thing. Having the controllers be this modular means they could release special-edition joycons without you needing to buy a whole system. Alas, that is not the direction they went.
