Comic: Scarlet Heart (Page 5)
Looking forward to the next night, Roseland had already fast-tracked her way to Cerbera Coliseum. Despite its unfinished condition, it still holds up surprisingly well. There are stray stone pillars and other bits of debris lying around, further showing that the arena never made it to completion. If her calculations were as on the spot as she figured, then the duo would be passing through any minute now. In the meantime, she continues rereading her favorite novel from her childhood. Whenever she had downtime in the Hakusai manor, her adoptive family, she enjoyed reading fictional stories about bounty hunters and vigilantes. As such, these stories are what inspired her to choose the path of the bounty hunter in her own life. Her most cherished of the stories is an old novel by the late author, Modicus Voupleiz. It is titled Shrouded In Blood and stars her favorite female lead. She reads, '"For one to make something of themselves, first they must make themselves out of nothing. What? Do you want a participation award?"' She intently reads each word, as if it were her first time reading it through. In truth, it is her fourth time reading the acclaimed story. Turning the page, she continues reading, "Ochiki T'onan monologued, alluding to her own struggles."
In a way, Roseland sees a part of herself in the novel’s protagonist, Ochiki T’onan. She is a strong, independent lead who instills confidence in Roseland. T’onan sides with neither end of the law, and instead pledges her allegiance to whichever side she finds justice in. '"Have you ever killed?' the persistent stranger continued to spew bizarre questions to T'onan. Much to his surprise, she answered with a threat." Roseland continues to lose herself in the story, becoming engrossed in the intense, heart-gripping plot all over again. '"Well, no. Not exactly. But if you don't get the hell out of my sight, you can be the first."' Alas, she finds a stopping point and marks the page. She shuts the gold-trimmed book and closes her eyes, coming back to the real world. Leaning against the rough, cold coliseum wall, she thinks out loud, “The operation will commence any moment now.” The time is nigh…her bounty hunter’s intuition tells her such.
