At the risk of ruining the pun, I'll help explain it. 'Fag' has two meanings, depending on location. One is the gay insult, the other, commonly used around UK, means 'cigarette'.

So, based on that, furfag = furry cigarette.

Definite favorite material. I am from the states also, but I have a lot of British friends and knew what a fag was even before I finished school and got online. But yes, I still believe the double context of the word would have been amusing if added; hell being slightly more gay than straight, I can still at least find humor in these kind of puns... even if it wasn't intended.
