I mean, him being a rude, arrogant and short fused jackass isn't really the same thing as him being dishonesty.
But that, I am afraid isn't really enough to make Leo a sympathetic or likeable character. Sure, Mira knows him her entire life, so she does have her reasons for having... mixed feelings for him, but until the story reaches the point were he actually shows positive attributes, for now I have no reason to see him as anything but an impulsive douchebag.

precisely. He can have some sort of nebulous history, but that doesn't make him any less of an absolute fucktard to people he just met, and to an observing outsider, having no redeeming qualities even towards someone who -has- that history with him. He's the tank. The meat-wall. His job is to absorb damage and hopefully deal it in equal measure. He's figuratively shit all over every member of the party and gone just short of attacking them outright for the entire comic. He's more or less even disregarded the blue life lady's intent and treads hazardously close to brushing off her orders, questioned her intent and fitness to position via her decisions, and this is, to my understanding, their god, or something close to it. The one who gave him the post he now holds, at her request, and even that he seems to have treated like a right rather than an honor for him, not so much anyone else.
I'm with you! Nigel's backstory explains a lot of his current behavior, and why he hasn't yet trusted the Tree - or himself. Leo also has had Great Expectations thrust in him and he still embraces the simplified versions that a child can understand, and does not allow himself nuance. Or fun. Or any sort of slack - he likely is even harsher on himself than on the others...
He may not be a Romulan girl, but I guess Leo's approach is kin to the Way Of Absolute Candor LOL
And yes, like that setting, Absolute Candor often leads to people trying to kick your ass.
And Leo isn't gentle or poetic about his reply.
But at least you have a clear picture of where you stand with him. And only action will change it.

Being unfailingly honest is... ok. Some things are better left unsaid, if you can't say something nice about someone, and so on.
But HONESTY and HOSTILITY aren't the same thing. You can not lie to someone, yet do it in a non confrontational manner. This is where Leo is a failure. I don't care about his backstory. If he can't deal with other people, *he shouldn't try to put himself in a position where you have to deal with other people*.
I'm not even gonna touch on how someone with this level of distrust for people managed to get into an actual relationship.

Leo may never lie but, he's got all the warmth of a glacier. And even the most "savage" of barbarians understood you need compassion. One doesn't need to lie to be compassionate or have a shred of empathy.
And Tristan liking Chili....I see that, I really do. He's always gotten along so well with avian folk. Of course, her feathers would tickle his fancy (Pun intended) though yes. Chili is as he claims her..sept perfect.
Her alchemy skills aren't the greatest though...I'm curious if she's aware she has pyromancy

He may not lie but he manipulates like a mofo, using their history and his being an unbreakable tank-bully to get away with it (unless "refusing direct orders from a superior knight/direct orders given to her by the Tree" is considered a lie)
His attitude toward Miralle on his lazy refusal to do anything for his or the group's survival (or anything at all) is "Make Me!" and he constantly tries to manipulate Miralle into making it a 2-furson team, abandoning the rest in the wilderness. If Miralle is injured to the point of being laid up for a while, From what we've seen of him, it's a toss up wether he gives enough of a care not to abandon them and finish the quest alone. At that point, he will have sinned against the tree enough to fall to the "Final Boss''s lies.

While Evie and the Templar are discussing trebuchet business, a short goblin girl appears, standing next to the templar without him noticing, and also wearing a trench coat, along with a trillbilly hat and sunglasses as well as platform heels; her facial expression is completely mischievous. She is also clearly ridiculously curvaceous.
Evie: "...Who's this?"
Templar: "What doth thou mea- oh, Gobbo my dearest, I told you to wait on the horse, this is private business-"
gobgal: "Hey doggy! You lookin' cute, want to join in on sum 'business' with me an mah hubby?"
The goblin girl, giving an extra wide smirk, then proceeds to throw open her trenchcoat, revealing a view of bountiful green flesh. Underneath the coat, all she is wearing is a fishnet bodysuit, along with pasties covering her nipples and nethers, and moreover the voluptuous hills, mountains, and valleys of her rounded body, overflowing through the 'nets, have been oiled up, giving her skin an eye-grabbing shine.
Evie: (quietly) "...Gyat daym."
Templar: "Gobbo! Ah, sorry milady, I am on a, -a personal quest, to purify this goblin maiden! ...It has been taking a considerable amount of time..."

Gobbo goes 'You ain't leavin' that easy!' and lunges after Evie, but is stopped by the Templar, barely holding her back, who simply yells at Evie 'RUN, RUN!!!!!!'
Evie rushes home in a mad dash of fearful panic, surprising Stella, who them gets Evie to tell her what happened.

First answer: Okay, I must say I didn't expect the Templar in the alley doing business. XD
Second answer: I agree with the first thing she said, but I'm not sure about the last thing. lol
Third answer: Yeah, he clearly isn't thinking about Chili.
Fourth answer: I can see that in Leo, but being brutally honest with everyone doesn't take away from his excesses when it comes to honesty and "honesty."

Regardless of one's childhood circumstances, there comes a point where the person you are is the person you choose to be. Tristan had a rotten childhood too, and he chose to be a kind and gentle empathetic soul. Leo chose to be a mean, hateful, and abusive asshole. Blunt honesty doesn't change or excuse that.
A Templar in an overcoat, selling plans/parts to Medieval weaponry to those looking to wage a crusade, complete with the mannerisms of a old knight....
...This is is the kind of stuff why i love coming to Viktria's little corner of the internet. Great wholesome comics and hilarious jokes

The Actual Knight Templars were Knight Scholars, archiving information and teaching it to the common people, which was something that made them very popular compared to the Clegary, who FORBID knowledge to be taught to the common folk.
They were equal parts brain, and Equal parts warrior... To the point that when the Church betrayed them and branded them "Heretics" out of envy, the warrior caste of the knight templars were able to hold off the Church knights while the scholar caste either escaped with their knowledge, or destroyed what they couldn't take with them.
The fact that the Knight Templars chose to destroy their knowledge so it wouldn't fall into the hands of the church, implies some VERY rich, and dangerous knowledge.
So it is plausable that some of their forbidden knowledge was interdimensional travel.

Because the Church passed down those lies for eons, and made it the "Popular Truth".
The same thing was done for the Greek and Egyptian Gods by the Romans, such as painting Sekhmet as a "Goddess of Plagues" and an "Evil Goddess", when she was in truth, a Healer and a Goddess of Fertility as well as a Goddess of War and Protection (Children most especially), or Athena as a "violent and spiteful goddess", when she was actually a goddess of Justice and Honor as well as War.
By the way, the best way to learn it, is to shelf the "Popular Truth" and go to the places where the demonized ones originated from.
