He probably knew it from the moment he set eyes on them. He, like Roko, has kami vision, he can see into the Spirit Plane. That instantly would reveal they are not in their right bodies. If he didn't do it when he first laid eyes on them, he absolutely did it the first time they answered for one another.
But he doesn't know the how or the why yet, I think. He's revealing his cards early and that's a truly bad sign.

If they swapped body it mean magic, not sure how exactly magic work in this world, but it's possible a magic of this kind is very limited. And now we're talking to several powerful magic users who likely had a lot of knoweldge.
So it's entirely possible they could guess they were involved with a powerful artifact, and if you don't trust this person you don't want them to figure this out.

Saw this coming a mile away. Was NOT predicting that Suzocon-sama would show his cards this early in the hand. Maybe he understands they are body switched but not WHY. If he thinks this is just glamour meant to hide the true Princess Saida... hoo boy. They are at the bottom of s**t creek with this guy.
You know, the kami that could erase them with a sneeze? The very last thing on this world you want to piss off?

Yeah, I'm 100% with you. I know, and have studied, kitsune folklore from Japanese texts and history. How much Virmir chooses to follow of that folklore is totally up to him - his world's a mishmash of mythologies. But if Suzucon-sama is anything like the highest powered kitsune mentioned in the folklore... they've deeply insulted and dishonored him in his own shrine. They are in very, very deep doo-doo. This is just like walking into a Great Wyrm's lair and insulting them to their face. Think that would end well?
But if he IS like a traditional kitsunegami, he has two critical weaknesses. One will do them no good. Can you guess what the other is?

Close. One is dogs. Kitsune, no matter how powerful, have no defense against the Inu clan and they hate dogs.
The other is capturing their hoshi no tama (Kitsune ball). Like a djinni, capturing their ball forces them to do your bidding - but they never stop trying to trick you into giving it back, and if they ever get it back... kami help you.

He's curious, that's the only reason they remain among the physical realm, right now. But if they deny him his answer once more, they won't exist in ANY form. Kitsune can destroy spirits just as easily as they can matter, through consumption. Roko, being a three-tailed Kitsune, discovered that power a LOT earlier than he was meant to, due to becoming a spirit himself.
The fact he has fully revealed his tails, and is letting his full power shine through, is an incredibly bad sign. He's decided the time has come to lay his cards on the table. Flitchard is right: By directly lying to him they have insulted their host, and we've already gotten a demonstration just how angry he gets when he is insulted...
I dunno, his expression is more like “haha gotcha!”, rather than Old Testament “I’ma gonna smite thee now”. I think he’s giving them one last chance to come clean. Like I said, someone that old knows people aren’t readily going to air their dirty laundry up front, and making them paint themselves into a corner is likely going to yield more interesting results than going all wrathful. At least with Saida and Brand. Roko knows better and he was the one who was glared at.
I'm thinking the next page we're going to see Roko spilling the beans, as he is the only one who really appreciates the magnitude of the situation they're in (and absolutely cannot get away with even the slightest amount of disrespect.) Last page Brand and Saida did tell the truth, at least from a Kenobian "certain point of view". This page, they flat out lied and pretty much were caught in the act.
Interesting side-note: If Mr 8-tails makes them ANY sort of promise, whether positive or negative, you can BET he'll move Heaven and Earth to fulfill it. Kitsune RARELY promise anything, because they are BOUND to fulfill it. Failure to fulfill a promise for ANY reason can be dealt with quite severely, up to and including forfeiture of tails, or even DEATH if egregious enough.
So if he promises vengeance on them... there is NO force on Earth that could protect them. He will spend however long it takes to do WHATEVER he swore to do to them. And given his night omniscience and Omnipotence... Yeah. COugh it up, guys, this is NOT someone to screw with./
There's no guarantee he's an enemy, he honestly seems more intrigued, and he has no need to steal power from anyone, he's already on the verge of being a deity. Kitsune rarely bother with mortal affairs, after alll.

There's one thing that can stop a kitsune from fulfilling a promise, at least temporarily: Steal their hoshi no tama (ball of stars). That lands the kitsune, no matter how powerful, squarely in the control of the one that has the ball. The downside is, if that kitsune ever gets their ball back and you are in the vicinity, no force in heaven or earth is going to save you from their wrath.
I were them I'd have Roko steal the ball, get what they need out of Monster Fox, then drop the ball off right on top of Darya's kingdom and depart. Let him and Darya fight for it while you make your escape far, far away.
