My attempt at this week's Thursday Prompt. This week, the word for the prompt was "prospect".
As always, please be sure to check
ThursdayPrompt for more.
I might have gotten away from the prompt word a little bit here, it made sense in my head as I started and then I wound up just committing to this one.
An aside: heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of
. I never knew or communicated with him in anyway but he's led a fun website from which I've had an opportunity to pretend I can be creative and have also had the chance to meet a lot of wonderful people, so thank you for that Dragoneer and may you rest in peace.

Titles will be the absolute death of me...
I think I might have played their relationship up a bit too much here though I'll probably just lean into it at this point. I had intended for them to be close so O-13E's heart would basically be stomped on by James' inability to do anything but that kind of got out of hand a bit here, didn't it?
I'm grateful you'd take the time to read through this one, thanks much for that.

Poor Obi. I have a feeling things are going to have to get worse for him before there’s any chance of them getting better.
And really, this story just emphasizes that any company involved in creating complex life should at least have a Board of Ethics for researchers to appeal to.

Once things hit rock bottom, they can only go up from there, right?
Ethics? Ethics are just a bump in the road toward progress! Besides: O-13E isn't human. It's a research project, nothing more. - Corporate
I very much appreciate you having looked this one over, very grateful for that.

Uh... uhm... what is a "happy" ending exactly? *nervous laugh*
I do plan to make the ending happy but I've an idea I want to try here that might be a bit more... ruthless than this one was. (Just be glad I cut it off where I did: you know how I like to push emotion and what comes next I anticipate not being the most pleasant!)
I apologize for bringing the mood down but very much appreciate that you'd read over this one, always grateful for that.

Poor thing has already associated the steel cage with something bad...
Given I hadn't really planned on continuing this one when I wrote up the first, I wasn't really prepared to dig that deep. Since I've thought up something more for it, I think that I might just drop hints here and there that it was probably either a bizarre discovery or developed in the labs; might just keep an actual answer a bit under wraps (stakeholders don't want info getting out).
