Comic: Scarlet Heart (Page 8)
As the standoff continues, Zenchi and Roseland become increasingly angrier with each other. Ithaca has a worried look on her face as she puts a hand on her friend’s shoulder. At first, she didn’t think much about the leopard, knowing what they had dealt with before. Bandits, ruffians, etc. Though, Roseland’s presence and demeanor concerned the innocent coyote, “A bounty hunter? Do we really have a bounty out for us, Chi-Chi?” Had they made an enemy out of someone? What was Roseland’s affiliation? The idea of them having a target on their backs sent a chill down her spine. Though, Zenchi took a different approach, brushing off her friend’s concern. Instead, she insulted the leopard for her greed and selfishness, “Doesn't surprise me there's people like you that want to make a quick bit of coin off of me.” Still upkeeping her arrogant, self-assured attitude, Roseland nonchalantly leans to the side as she starts to brag, “You put it quite bluntly, but it's not far from the truth. In fact, I have a flawless track record, and you two aren't going to ruin it.” The Hero Of The Lands was becoming more annoyed with the bounty hunter’s cocky attitude, “Uh huh, so what's your play?” “I've heard all about your little mission of justice, Zenchi. It's pointless. Nothing more than a faux-sense of righteousness you parade around.” Roseland starts to monologue, ridiculing Zenchi’s and Ithaca’s lofty ideals of justice. Why should they get to decide what’s right and what’s wrong? As far as she is concerned, they’re doing little more than satisfying their own self-important ego of being famous heroes.
Roseland clenches her fist and further solidifies her stance on the duo’s path of false justice. “It's naive of you to think you can wipe, how you say, ‘evil’ off the face of The Lands. Let me tell you upfront: people need only look out for themselves.” While it is a selfish position to take, she attempts to justify it based on what happened in her past. “The same folks you wish to help one day will stab you in the back the moment it benefits them.” Unbeknownst to the two heroes, Roseland had a rough past of her own. In truth, they had some aspects in common. Unfortunately for the duo, the bounty hunter is dead set on bringing them in all for her own gain. Though, staying true to her ideals, she doesn’t wish to kill them, unlike how some of her fellow Guild hunters would deal with them. At this point, negotiations clearly weren’t panning out. Naturally, she didn’t expect the duo to simply hand themselves in. She came prepared for a fight and so did they.
