Wow, cool! I was looking through your profile trying to find any trails of you having any ties with Russia or some other East Europe country but found nothing and thought maybe there's some other reason, like, I have a foreign friend with a slavic nickname and fursona with a slavic lore just because he likes the aesthetics so I assumed it could be a similar case. Now I see. Good you decided to put a send off to your Russian past in an art but at the same time I support your decision of moving out from here as well. Not that I wish everyone to do the same but if one does so then it's never a bad thing to do imo.
Well.. the reason why I kinda shyed away from it has to do with that whole 2014 Crimea thing, at the time I was afraid if I have anything on display linking me to my homeland, I could get targeted for it.. and even though I still worry this for it has happened a few times before. But it is a love and pride that has stuck with me in the background all this time. I was born a few months before the USSR fell and when it did, my family and I scraped together all that we could and saved up to fund our departure to the west for just in case. I still have some subtle hints here and there, my original sona form, I called the "Slavic Dragon" [this was before I realized there is an mythological multi-headed dragon of the same species name], but.. yes, though recently, I have been wanting to stop hiding my Russian past and be more true to myself. It is good to assimilate yes if to fit in, but to completely erase one's background? It was a good decision for my family to move, but in the end, Russia still has my heart for I shall forever love her culture and people. And there is also the aesthetics, the art, the music, all of it really inspires me~ -w-
I completely understand your feelings man, I assumed that the reason of being secret about your past is Russia's worldwide reputation which started declining since 2014 events. Many Russians feel ashamed of being Russians even nowadays, even those who don't have to communicate with the foreign world but you can see pretty much the same behavior around Americans as well who always say "I wish I weren't born in USA" in Twitter, except they're not trying to hide their origins while hating their country. So, I'd rather support your decision to be more open. No country is perfect and regular citizens are mostly not responsible for their country's sins, normal people will always understand you and never judge you for your past or even present nationality. I was never hiding my nationality and more than that I show it off pretty boldly from time to time by drawing Russian cartoon characters in their actual Russian environment, share my knowledge about Russian animation with the Fandom and love to discuss cultural differences with people. I see that many foreigners are sincerely interested in Russian culture and I'm always glad to help here, many furries love furry characters from Russian cartoons, some of my friends even attempt to learn Russian, Russian furry artists are pretty much on demand worldwide, most YCHs on FA are from Russians, so I don't really see any hate towards Russian furries in at least more adequate part of the Fandom, even despite the new horrible wave of rusophobia which spread over the world starting at 2022, you know what I mean. So, you really don't have to feel afraid to be yourself! Your friends and just good people of the Fandom in general will be always supportive for you.
I've met and befriended many wonderful people from Russia, many artists who I have supported or at the least, tried to promote to get them more work. I feel a bond with them in this and the shared artistry. I only remember a small bit of Russian, but I do still "get" the language enough to get a general idea of what is being said should I hear it spoken, I have many olde records from the USSR that I listen to at times. Mmh, and I understand the feeling the Americans have with their own country, as I live here, I completely understand the shame with the way things are going. No country is perfect, but each one is beautiful in it's own way. I do not associate the people with the government.. since as history has shown us, almost always what the people want and what the government wants, are two very, very different things. Russian cartoons characters are something special and worthy of much love. Yes.. my friends and many good people have been supportive of me for nearly two decades now i've been part of this wonderful fandom. There'll always be detractors, I dealt with one a few weeks ago, but.. so be it. We know who our true friends are, and you are quite nice yourself, thank you for to talking with me. ^_^
That's pretty cool that you still can somewhat understand Russian speech even though you moved to US when you was about 3 years old (by my calculations if I'm right)! And yeah, the more I speak to Americans the more it feels like our countries are actually much more similar than it seems, in a plenty of the same bad stuff too unfortunately but still US has a lot to be proud of and imo it's much easier to not be ashamed of being an American than of being a Russian but it's just my personal opinion, I pretty much love both countries myself, as you said, each one is beautiful in its own way, it's a "Is the glass half empty or half full?" situation where it's just everyone's personal choice to see only bad aspects of something or to see beyond that. I'm glad you have such understanding people around you and feel comfortable in fandom! And you're welcome! I love to talk to people if it's not obvious already haha.
Btw, pretty hot art! I love 7 toe feet idea a lot especially.

It's been a bit of challenge as what remains of my family have already forgotten how to speak Russian and it's been years since i've spoken it myself, though I try, I am aware that I get many words wrong or use the wrong gender pronunciation. [and yeh, that's right, though even after leaving Russia, I heard the language a lot as we were all learning.. well, re-learning English on the way to America so as to be able to communicate with customs and immigration more easily.] Yes.. The US and Russia are much alike in there being shared problems.. is likely why so many American and Russian furs end up as friends, shared grievances and interest in each other in so many ways. Yes, I love both countries as well, both were home to me and I have little negative to say, I am just happy to have somewhere to live. ^_^
Thank you much, this is a wonderful fandom, I have been comfortable and part of since 2007, it is my home, and everyone I share in it with, I wish to be as friends with. :3 [oh it's fine, it's lovely to chat with nice people. <3]
Hehe, thank you! I got the idea from studying Native American folklore and mythology, particularly around the cryptid "sasquatch", the 7-toed feet idea came from some descriptions of the being having a 6 or 7 toes per foot while other descriptions deal with the being having massive feet.. I liked both and was looking for a way to make my sona's wolf form more unique, and so there comes the large 7-toed feet idea, the long jaw and muzzle were from my love for such as I find characters with long muzzles to be quite handsome, gives a folklore feel and I find properly displays my emotions if one of my own sona forms or characters~

It's pretty interesting how easy it is to forget your own language when it just stops surrounding you in your everyday life! It feels so natural and common like breathing or blinking when it's everywhere but then poof and you forget it.
And damn, I didn't expect it to be based on actual mythology! I thought extra toes is just some horny concept, man, American folklore surely has some inspiring material for feet enthusiasts! And yeah, I'm a big sucker for big snouts myself, it's an equivalent of a big dick for me, if a character has one it adds +100 to handsomeness automatically so I appreciated the big maw of your guy on this art too. Also speaking back about myths, you mentioned Slavic multi-headed dragon, did you meant a three-headed Zmei Gorynych?

Hehe yeh.. there's a family of German people in my town who moved to here a few years before the pandemic, they could speak both English and German, they've mostly-forgotten German now despite having spoken it for most of their lives. Only English and some Spanish is spoken where I am. ^_^;
Hehe yeh, i've a lifelong interest mythology and sometimes like to base character designs around that.. though, the extra toes thing also is a horny concept.. and yuush, the American folklore is quite rich and vast, the natives from all across the land have stories to tell, great legends, demons, cryptids, and so much more. Hehe, I feel the same about big snouts, and such appears on quite a few of my other forms/characters as it is something i've experimented with and have tried adapting across the board if I can make it work with the facial structure~
Zmei Gorynych? Yep! That's the one I meant, I learned of this dragon from reading a book on Russian culture and history back in my school days. ^_^
