While royal twins had their own... let's just say, "affairs" with various people, from foreign elites and royal guard to even pretty ordinary commoners, none of that really ever made them happy. Even when they actually had feelings besides lust towards others - eventually they came to a conclusion that it won't work in long term, not something they really want, and in the end, they get consumed by doubts, disappointment and feel of inner emptiness.
Maybe it's something wrong with them, or "The One" just doesn't belong to their overall surroundings. They are desperate for love, yet anything that could be described as "love" never really did good for them.
And it really pains them, that their hearts are just bottomless pits. Just like one of their father.
