Until the 10th century Ancient Russia supplied England with Arabian gold. This can be understood by the huge number of English coins found on the northern shores of Russia. Also our houses kept in touch through Vikings. And Vikings could both attack Russian and English, and trade with us.

We traded through the Vikings.
We thought the English were Vikings and Goths.
The English thought we were Vikings.
The Scandinavians thought, we were all Normans.
That's how vix and I can understand each other from a bunch of borrowed words from old languages.
