Oran was turned into a dragon as part of a curse, for attacking the god of the forest, it was a bad idea for him (as a stag) to have attacked like that. But the whole 'dragon' thing wasn't as bad as it was originally. See, the god didn't intend to punish Oran, he intended to give him a better view of the world. Not only could he be a hulking, yet strikingly kind draconic thing, but a humanesque male as well, and in that form he'll actually find love, which will change his views on everything.
