An Orignal Character for my Fanfic. I had fun with this one, creating him last night cured my depression.

Hoskit's Story
Hoskit is one of few survivors from the attack of the Fire Demon.
He was one of the best, if not the very best, Tenshioni solider in the time before the incident; known for his legendary aerial speed and agility. Hoskit's very survival is testament of his skill, for the attack that he barely managed dodge killed everyone else on his team.
He still wears his old armor, which bears the scorch marks of that fateful day, in honor of the memory of his fallen comrades.
In the days before the incident Hoskit’s hair was cropped short. He has since decided to never cut it again, to allow its length to measure out the years he almost lost.
He was not born left handed but as you can see Hoskit had no choice but to adopt a left handed life and sword style. The arm was lost half way down the humerus, and everything past the first third of the ulna/radius of his right wing was also lost. The blast grazed him from the side, first taking out his wing before maiming his arm…had he not been wearing armor Hoskit surely would have died that day.
Despite the loss of nearly half a wing he still has some flight capabilities. A Tenshioni's flight depends equally on both their naturally strong magic abilities and physical characteristics*. Hence why our story’s hero was hoping to one day restore flight to his smaller wings, but he has never had a strong knack for magic and what Hoskit accomplished was beyond our hero‘s skill.
Using a heavily modified casting of Farore’s Wind Hoskit is able to create a pocket of updraft to his one side which helps make up for the loss of his primary feathers.
Relearning to fly with his wing so hindered was not easy and the results are still clumsy, a far cry form the unique agility he possessed in the past. He cannot stay airborne near as long as before, nor fly as high or fast...but Hoskit still proves to be a grand instructor in aerial combat, including teaching Chirin how to better handle his gifted winged form.
The impressive flying abilities of his past may have been greatly reduced, but despite his handicap Hoskit is still equal to an average warrior in short-term aerial combat. Furthermore his swordsmanship when earthbound, his skills with casting magic, and his mind are all still considered superior to any of the remaining soldiers, hence why Hoskit is regarded as the head instructor.
Hoskit takes his responsibilities very seriously, approaching them with a blunt no-nonsense attitude, and this includes lessons with Chirin. Whilst teaching Chirin the ways of a winged warrior he does so with a firm guiding hand.
His quiet and stern nature at first leads one to see him as the sort of instructor you do not want to fail out of fear of penalty, especially since he is quick to correct and seldom gives praise. But you quickly learn that he is far from harsh and instead Hoskit becomes the kind of teacher you seek to please, his students strive to make him proud of their accomplishments.
Overall he has a fairly lighthearted, calm, quiet, personality. Hoskit is very lucky to even be alive and knows this. A hot summer's day outside their land of snow can cause a Tenshioni to fall ill rather quickly, let alone the heat from a blast of flame. Not only were his limbs beyond saving but he was very ill after the incident…Hoskit nearly died both on the battlefield and days later at the turning point of his recovery.
Hoskit treasures each passing day, and tries to not let his damaged body slow him down. Learning to fight and fly again was a seemingly impossible task and yet he has managed to do just that within a five year time frame. Hoskit may never reclaim the grand warrior status he once had, but this one-Winged-One can take on any of the normal soldiers in a short aerial sparring match with no problem, and whoops their ass in ground combat.
It should be noted that he did not face his recovery alone. He had much support from his loving wife, his "new right hand" as his comrades call her, for she is always there for him.
Hoskit’s comrades also dubbed him with an endearing nickname:
“The one-Winged-One”
Beyond being literal, it is also a play on words, based on how outsiders often refer to the Tenshioni race simply as The Winged Ones.

*I played around with integrating the wings into human anatomy vs. tacking them on.
He has two sets of pectoral muscles. The second set is partially atop what would be a human’s normal set and it stretches over the shoulders to help power the wings.
The set that powers the arms, as a result of the muscle overlay, is thinner and wider than a human’s, hence why the pectorals appear to be lower/too low.
The sternum (bone in the center of the rib cage) is elongated creating a deeper chest to house more muscle atop the ribs.
From the waist down a Tenshioni is lightly built, as are their arms, keeping their body mass slim aside from a well muscled, thick upper torso to support their magic-fueled flight. Being one handed and continuing to wield a traditional large Oni sword means Hoskit’s arm is a little more muscular than normal.

The idea to create Hoskit kinda sorta came from my teenage nephew, a fellow avid Zelda fan who actually introduced me to OoT back when he was…dear gawd, like seven years old I think?! I remember him being patient with me as a I used a joystick for the first time in my life and thus had Link running around in involuntary circles…I then proceeded to finish the game long before he did XD
ANYWAY he read my fanfic, and when brainstorming on what else to write he liked the idea of going into just what Chirin did when he stayed in the Land of Snow. This idea made my brain want to sit down and draw up a Tenshioni warrior to be his aerial combat instructor… And well, this is not what I had planned but is what fell out of my brain…and I love it X3
I was quite pleased with myself when I came up with the extra long, tied-off sleeve idea, it may not be very practical but I love the appearance.
And I seem to have applied a lot of what I like in characters to Hoskit:
-Long hair on a male (Duo Maxwell’s hair is fecking awesome, As is Kenshin’s)
-White hair on a young character (Griffith is mine, you fan girls go away)
-Wings (Escaflowne rules just due to Van’s wings)
-Armor (Oni Link’s especially, but Griffith’s feather themed armor in the Fantasia arc of the manga is so *drools)
-Scars or some form of past physical harm (creates an instant interest in ones back story, when I saw Gutts in Berserk I instantly wanted to know the story behind his missing eye and arm. Ed and Al of Fullmetal Alchemist also fall under this…and Vash the Stampede tops this)
-Animal ears or pointy ears (namely Hylian ears, damn I love their ears)
-Face or Body markings (be it natural or tattoos, I love the visual interest)
….About the only things missing from my “instantly interesting character” list is a tail, fangs, horns, claws, and red eyes XD
____________
PS Note my wing size is smaller scaled, in some of my works I gave Tenshioni Link some hugeass wings…and while I love hugeass wings I decided it would be impossible to live with wings that big X_X
PSS I took the name Hoskit from Wind Waker, it is the name of a Rito guard. If I were to go the route of tying my fanfic in with Wind Waker vs. Twilight Princess the Tenshioni so would have become the Rito (makes more sense than them evolving from Zora, lol)
PSSS The whole thing with the Rito blew me away when the game came out. I wrote this fanfic like 10 years ago but did not share it until this year…had my fanfic been on the net before Wind Waker came out I so would have been suspecting some inspiration was taken from Winged Ones! A winged race, one of them being a missing sage, it was close to my idea…and had Medli the Rito been the sage of Wind and not Makar (who frankly suits Earth better) it would have been even closer!

"Haha!! Glad to be of service, m'Lady" With a sweep, I make an elegant leg, and bow. "The shading, and the color schemes, as well as the pose, is just excellent. At least, to me. It all just seems to blend in well together. And I fucking LOVE Legend of Zelda, so the FanArt already makes me drool." XD
Yay Thankyou!
