The faithful scoured the earth for pins, waging holy war against those they suspected of hoarding the relics. All they had to do was find the right one...
Meanwhile the learned scholars argued about the meaning of the enigmatic scripture. Was it a riddle? No man could enter within such a tiny piece of metal; the ancients' final message seemed to be of futility: there would be no continuance.

It was the first encounter with an entity so startlingly different, alien even. Was it an oracle? A messenger from distant gods? Was it itself a god? What secrets does it know? What knowledge might it impart to the worthy? What would even be the proper way to hail it? After a moment's consideration, a first attempt at communication is made:
