As someone who's been shoplifted in retail I have zero sympathy for her right now. They think it doesn't hurt us bottom guys, but the number of people who had wages garnished due to theft, if not forced to be laid off because a business was losing too much money... I know this is a sexy comic but God I want this security guard to put the fear of something in this brat before the end is done.
Got a little secret for you. No one's getting laid off or having their wages garnished because of theft, at not least in a big corporation. That happens because shareholders expect infinitely increasing profits and the fastest way to increase profits is to decrease payroll expense. Your employers love you for being angry at shoplifters instead of them.
Oh I'm not saying greedy corps don't share the blame, but at the same time because shoplifters pull the shit they do, it eventually trickles down and causes problems that DO affect the workers. So again I have ZERO sympathy for shoplifters. Had too many cause issues in some of the places I've worked, and my current place of employment is dealing with it right now. Hell a buddy of mine had to shut down his start-up store because of rampant shoplifting.
Thing is, even insurfance has limits and if your losing money than making it; a company is then going to cut costs where they can. Payroll is often the first thing; so again Shoplifters can fucking rot, because I've watched friends lose work because the businesses they worked for lost more profit than they made, and thus downsizing occurred.
The whole 'oh they can write it off' scthick seems fine until you really look into the actual goings on. I don't like defending corps, but at the same time, theft is theft and to claim nobody gets hurt is a lie. It may not be right then and there, but eventually victims are had.

I'd still blame corporations and corporate bosses for that. They're making the money, and if they take shoplifing, which is going to happen no matter what, out on the workers, blame them for that.
There really can't be many businesses at all driven out of businesses by petty criminals. I have zero sympathy for corporations or capitalism.
I have a lot of sympathy for workers and those who steal to survive, which is what most shoplifters do.

Agree to disagree, if you look at several cities that are suffering crimewaves due to soft-on-crime policies, most of the major businesses have picked up sticks and left, or are in the midst of doing so. The Mom and Pops businesses also have suffered, so it's not just the corpos, shoplifting has consequences and I call bull that most shoplifters do so to survive, the number of organized shoplifting rings that go back and flip their stolen goods has skyrocketed in many places.
Most of that is straight-up BS, But it's more complicated than I feel like going into right now.
I'll just ask: Who do you think is behind shoplifting rings, which aren't actually common, who do you think is actually making money off of those, and why do you suppose the people pulling those heists do it, and what do you suppose they do with the little money they make? They're not getting rich off of this. It smacks of desperation to me.
