Ash x Misty: Tribute to Rachael Lillis
I wanna tell you what I'm feeling,
But I don't know how to start
I wanna tell you, but now
I'm afraid that you might break my heart
Oh, why should anything so easy ever
Be so hard to do?
I wanna tell you what I'm feeling,
And to say that, I love you.
CREATOR'S NOTE:
I'd been playing with the idea of doing an Ash x Misty pic as soon as I found the proper SFM models for it, but found myself sidetracked by other projects and RL obligations for a while. When I heard about the passing of Rachael Lillis, however, I decided that the time for dilly-dallying was over.
Like many gamers who grew up with Pokemon from the first game, I was introduced to Misty (and yes, Jessie) from the anime...and Misty, in particular, gained a soft spot in my heart. For all the times she and Ash bickered, I personally glowed inside each time they let their guards down around one another and showed a softer side. While they never officially got together, I always felt that, even among the other female companions that showed up later, Ash and Misty had a special kind of bond, the kind that you only really get with a friend that you've known for years. As such, it's my headcanon that these two got together at some point after Ash's journey ended.
This goes out to Rachael Lillis, whose vocal range brought life and vibrant personality to the Tomboyish Mermaid (and to the most iconic female villainess of the Pokemon anime). Without her skills as a voice actress, Misty might never have struck such a deep chord with my teenaged younger self.
Rest well, and good journey. May Arceus welcome you fondly.
